Student suicide: Stop judging, find a way!

The time has come, we stop judging, and instead take action to not repeat the statements of late regret.

Master Nguyen Viet Dang Du – teacher at Le Quy Don High School (District 3, HCMC): Face pressure and learn how to “get out”

I think stop blaming everything on the pressure of studying, because life is inherently full of pressure. When we go to work, get married, we will realize that the first pressure of school life is still light. In their life journey, they will face a lot of unavoidable pressure, what we owe them is the understanding and skills to “get out” when falling into difficulties, how to face and overcome them. through pressure…

Today’s students often say “the teachers and parents of the previous generation did not have the pressure to study”. No, we didn’t have laptops or computers in our time, but it was also full of pressure when we had to study a whole book of thick literature, solve hundreds of math problems, take the university entrance exam one by one… Those pressures were like a vaccine. -Please help us to overcome other difficulties in later life. The pressure to study is real, but you have to learn to confront and overcome to grow. Our problem is to find solutions so that you have the strength and skills to overcome difficulties.

Master in Educational Psychology Che Da Thao: There is a great need for classes for adults

Right now we should stop judging, need to act now. What we are most lacking right now are adult classes. Educational units need to develop programs with content such as age-psychological knowledge and signs to recognize psychological disorders for both parents, teachers and adults in order to promptly detect the problems of these children. children around, in order to promptly give them “buoys” of concern, professional treatment solutions… to help them in time.

Those are very specific classes such as pre-marital, pre-reproductive, parenting, etc. for adults that need to be opened and deepened in content, teaching them how to be responsible in life with their wives. husband), with children; Prepare your mind and knowledge for the journey of motherhood and fatherhood because no one is born knowing how to be a parent right away.

Master Nguyen Thuy Uyen Phuong – Founder of The Edu house: Don’t consider student suicide as an isolated incident, need a systemic solution

Even in the education systems we admire, teen suicide is a burning issue. As in the US, 8 out of every 100,000 teenagers choose to leave, because of academic and other pressures.

Life is inherently full of pressure, so is learning, there is no such thing as not learning anything or “learning to play” but later become a person and become successful. There is toxic pressure, but there is also good pressure. How many other pressures are there in the future (boss scolds, detractors from colleagues…), parents can say “no need to go to work, stay at home with adoptive mother for the rest of your life?”. So, what can you do to help your children cope with and reduce toxic pressures?

That is, it is necessary to make the following trio of programs an essential part of the school:

Social emotional learning,

Conscious discipline,

School counseling.

These programs help students improve self-awareness, regulate their own emotions, gain connection skills, seek help, and get psychological help when needed.

This program also helps adults (teachers, parents) know how to establish discipline for children based on respect, understanding and timely recognition of signs of need for help.

The fact is, very few schools in Vietnam focus on these programs, or follow the style of “horse riding to see flowers”. For many schools, school counseling is simply hiring a counselor to sit there “for free”, even many schools do not even have this position. As for training on emotional education or positive discipline, the whole school “collects” 1-2 days a year. Learning like that can be understood or applied correctly.

One reason the school invests in these programs so lightly is because few people really care. From the management agency to the parents, everyone cares about how the school teaches English, math, physics and chemistry; Is there any link between English and US… Not many people ask teachers if they have emotional education, counseling room or not. But in my experience, the school that invests in this field is likely to be a good school.
