Suffering isn’t enough, it’s too much

If the textbook definition is followed, then Gen Z, in full Generation Z, is defined as a group of people born between 1997 and 2012. That is to say, the beginning of Gen Z is now 24, 25 years old. age… Oh! The age when, according to Jack Ma, “Before the age of 25, all mistakes are assets, are valuable lessons for you.”

What exactly is Gen Z aiming for?

Spent about 0.39 seconds searching for the phrase “Gen Z makes money” on Google, you will get about 1,340,000 results. What makes Gen Z stand out is probably “good at making money early.”

Although this story is shared by Linh Phan (2k2), currently a 2nd year student at Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment, it is a really common thought among Gen Z. At school, she owns a Shopee sales channel with nearly 35k followers. When asked about her start-up process, she shared her personal perspective: “Starting a business is a difficult process, although I am small, the low is still the source of the high.”

Besides going to work early and earning billions, Gen Z is also impatient, impatient, quick-witted and prone to mistakes: What are the insiders really facing? - Photo 1.

Answering the question of why it is necessary to try so hard, she frankly: “It’s very simple, for money. I can buy what I want to buy, fall in love with the person I want to love, I don’t want to have to look at other people’s faces to live through the day. In the future, if my parents have difficulties, they will immediately say it. with me, it’s not because I’m afraid I don’t have money but I’m afraid to bother. Then why don’t I try.”

Accordingly, one blogger has an overview as follows: “Gen Z grew up in a time of global economic pressure. Therefore, their pressures and living standards become more different from other countries. Many young people of Generation Z are acutely aware of the need to save for the future. They are always looking for better job opportunities for themselves to ensure financial security and self-reliance. main.”

A study conducted by Anphabe, a pioneer consulting firm in Asia on human resource solutions and employer branding, has shown that: “Different from previous generations, up to 81% of Gen Z young people confidently know themselves, know what they like and don’t like to do.”

Minh Chau (3rd year student at Hanoi National University of Education), a special Gen Z with different thoughts from the rest. She shared that she had just quit 3 part-time jobs: “I understand that people want to go to work early to gain experience, understand that I understand the job, can be financially independent to some extent. But after a part-time period and feeling not too passionate about the job, I Enjoy the last 1 year before graduation, spend your whole life working.

Sometimes I wonder if I like going to work? Or because everyone around me is working, so I have to follow the crowd? My answer is the latter. Therefore, I decided to stop to learn more, experience and go here and there. It doesn’t feel as flashy as winning competitions and interns in big corporations like my friends, but it makes me happy!”

Gen Z is too pressured about making money?

“While a lot of Gen Z really made money early, what are the rest of them thinking?” This is a topic that for Generation Z, they have two parallel lines of opinion.

One is, start a business and be independent from a very early age, the sooner financial self-reliance, the more “Freedom”. This is exactly the phrase that carries the signature “vibe” of Gen Z, and is the choice of Linh Phan.

Two is, learn and gain experience before stepping into the path of making money, want to rest and enjoy every journey in life. This makes the difference between Minh Chau and many young people of the same age.

Let’s see if from different perspectives, what these two girls think about “pressure”, causing Gen Z to be labeled as “Having not suffered enough, complaining”, or “A weak generation”. ” is being debated recently.

According to Linh Phan and Chau, what is the biggest pressure on Gen Z in general and you two in particular?

Linh Phan says: “The thing that makes me feel the most pressure, is probably people doubting my ability, and I think many young people today are like that too. Because I’m too young, compared to them. Remember the time. I posted a picture of the results after 1 month of sales, a lot of negative comments told me to deceive customers to increase interaction, how can I do that with such a young age… I’m really sad because I was denied all of them. I just wanted to say then, just because you can’t do it doesn’t mean everyone does. But I think the best way to respond is to show them that I’m still selling very well, having a good amount of customers. stabilized through customer feedback.”

Ovum: “For me, it’s different. The thing that makes me feel the most pressure, it comes from my peers. What people call ‘peer pressure’. I feel it. Our generation is very good now. Linh Phan this is also a typical example. Now, there is a lot of information on social networks. “20 years old earn billions”, “20 years old owns great real estate”, “20 years old buys a luxury car”, “financial independence at the age of 20″… and billions of things that “only 20 years old” has done. Oh, I don’t mean anything, but it really makes me feel bad about myself.”

What do you two think about the fact that previous generations think Gen Z needs to “surmount happiness” and not “overcome suffering”, or when Gen Z is labeled as “The generation that complains, is prone to depression/anxiety”. anxiety, easily affected by psychological problems, surrounded by too much…”?

Both Linh Phan and Minh Chau affirmed, “Yeah, there’s no pressure at any age.” But maybe the way people see it is a bit too negative. Gen Z is now too pressured to make money. This pressure is unfortunately created by their own generation. A lot of information makes toddlers think, must make money as young as possible, racing to see who will make the most money when young.

Minh Chau said that when she first started working, her manager reminded her a lot: “I still remember exactly what she said to me ‘This generation makes me very unhappy at times, has a quick temper, is impatient, quick and easy to make mistakes.’ When I heard that, I felt right. It’s true that we are too young to be professional in a certain environment, there will be things we do wrong because we haven’t stumbled before, we like to do it fast, think fast and sometimes leave messes that need to be solved, but really, I think we need more opportunities to prove ourselves than being labeled Gen Z and judged like that Linh Phan, do you think like me?”

Linh Phan also nodded with this idea: “I think you’re right. Even though we are often judged like that, like complaining, worrying about things that don’t work, or in the eyes of adults, we all like to think nonsense, but I see many friends. Young people of the same age who are even younger than me, are very good. They are proactive, have creative ideas, access information quickly, and especially have very good critical skills. In the midst of a group full of talented and dynamic people, there’s always pressure. Although we don’t have a literal war, we do have an underground war between people of the same generation.”

This inadvertently creates the most stressed generation today, the rate of depression among young people is over the threshold and nearly half of Gen Z young people are facing a feeling of hopelessness and loss.

What do you think, Gen Z needs to do to overcome the prejudices of “generation” and peer pressure?

Minh Chau said that her friend has 2 ways to overcome certain pressure: “One is to avoid it. The other is to stab it. And at the moment, I’m choosing the latter. Although I give up my part-time job, it’s a way for me to deal with invisible pressures. in general, but perhaps most of the time, I force myself to carry it. I choose to learn more, practice more. After all, my life is a painting, and that artist is you. So I don’t want to. paint your life from someone else’s point of view.”

Her friend Linh Phan also said: “For me, at the moment, the pressure from work has overwhelmed other external pressures. Just focus on what you need to do, the results will prove who you are, and the process will come. Those results, are experiences that no one can teach you but yourself. As long as you don’t stop, even if you drag, you have to go to the end.”

Despite many prejudices about Gen Z, there are always words of encouragement from previous generations

If you are new to Gen Z’s lifestyle and way of working, there are many brothers and sisters who feel that they cannot be reconciled with this young generation. But perhaps, when they begin to understand more about this generation, the brothers and sisters of the previous generation will still love Gen Z, maybe even understand them better than themselves.

In the category “Confiding in Gen Z”, the leader of the site commented: “I don’t know where, Gen Z is a generation of ‘monsters’ with intentionally misspelled words, with excessively fragile weaknesses, with disorganized and undisciplined people. I only know the The Gen Z that I came into contact with is representative of a very young and extremely talented generation.”
