The Chinese military yesterday (April 3) sent more than 2,000 medical personnel recruited from the army, navy and joint logistics support forces to Shanghai.
Many provinces such as Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Beijing have sent medical staff to Shanghai. Chinese media reports estimate that a total of more than 10,000 medical workers have been sent to Shanghai.
This is China’s biggest public health response since the country responded to the Covid-19 outbreak in Wuhan. At the time of the corona virus outbreak in Wuhan, the military sent more than 4,000 medical staff to the city, the State Council said.
Shanghai, which has been applying a two-stage blockade since the beginning of last week, has extended the blockade, requiring all residents to stay at home. The city recorded 8,581 asymptomatic Covid-19 cases and 425 symptomatic cases as of April 3.
Yesterday, Shanghai also asked all residents to self-test for Covid-19 at home.
