Australia failed at the Southeast Asian futsal tournament

Due to Covid-19, Australian futsal has not played for the past three years. They only sent one domestic club to participate in the Southeast Asian tournament. After struggling to overcome Timor Leste 7-4 in the first round, the Australian players had difficulty before Myanmar.

In the fourth minute, the Australian players did not defend well, they let TPAung cushion the ball close to the goal to open the scoring. In the 10th minute, pivot Anthony Haddad in a counterattack shot the ball from a tight angle to score the net of Mymanmar to equalize 1-1 for Australia.

Before the first half ended, the NMSoe player, after a volley was pushed away by the Australian goalkeeper, hit the back kick to raise the score to 2-1 for Myanmar.

At the beginning of the second half, Australia raised the team to find an equalizer, but Myanmar defended well and did not give the opponent a chance. Not only that, Myanmar also took the opportunity to score more goals. In the 24th minute, HMSoe shot the ball from five meters to hit the Australian player who changed the direction of the net to raise the score to 3-1. A minute later, NMSoe stole the ball from the Australian defender’s foot and then shot it into the far corner to increase the gap to 4-1.

After consecutive goals, Australia switched to Power Play, but could not have a goal to shorten the score. They then conceded two more goals when goalkeeper Dylan Niski had an own goal in the 27th minute and was shot far away by Myanmar’s TPAung in the 33rd minute.

With a strong 1-6 loss, Australia must win against Vietnam tomorrow to have a ticket to the semi-finals. Meanwhile, thanks to three points with the same high difference, Myanmar opened the door to the semi-finals. They currently have four points, a difference of +5 and the last round only met Timor Leste.
