Mercedes-Benz factory shut down for unexpected reasons

A Mercedes-Benz manufacturing plant had to be temporarily shut down because an unknown leopard managed to infiltrate and settle in it.

The news of the pause car manufacturing appear more frequently in recent times. The chip shortage has affected vehicle assembly, forcing automakers to either shut down some assembly lines or assemble only cars with fewer electronically controlled features. The most recent plant to be halted was the Mercedes-Benz production line in Chakan, India.

However, the outage was not due to a shortage of chips or to slow sales. This is the first time this reason has appeared for Mercedes-Benz or for car manufacturers. A cheetah entered the factory and roamed there for several hours. Chakan Forestry Department and Wildlife SOS had to find a way to rescue this lost leopard.

The rescue teams eventually found it around boxes and shelves. After lying here long enough, this leopard also received reassurance from lifeguards at a safe distance and decided to leave the factory.

According to Wildlife SOS, this leopard is a male leopard about three years old. It took about four hours to complete the rescue, and plant operations were halted for about six hours. Currently, this leopard is still under medical observation before being released back into the wild.

This incident partly reflects the loss of wildlife habitat. According to Wildlife SOS, the high probability of this leopard heading towards the plant is because the adjacent areas are surrounded by forest patches. Furthermore, the Mercedes-Benz assembly line in Maharashtra also has one of the highest concentrations of leopards in the world, so the leopard may have come from the surrounding area. Therefore, there is a high chance that something like this will happen a few more times in the future.
