City authorities collected 25.7 million samples on April 4, and nearly 80% of these were tested on the morning of April 5.

The proportion of asymptomatic COVID-19 cases in Shanghai is much higher than the rest, which is attributed to the screening process to detect infected people before they develop the disease. However, experts said they could not explain why symptomatic cases dropped on April 4, to 268 from 425 a day earlier.
