UK adds 9 new COVID-19 symptoms

List COVID-19 symptoms was updated as the number of COVID-19 cases hit a record high in the UK, with an estimated 5 million people currently infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Professor Tim Spector, principal scientist of the COVID-19 symptom-monitoring app Zoe, said updating the symptom list could help reduce the number of infections.

The addition of new COVID-19 symptoms comes just days after the UK Government ended its campaign COVID-19 test free universality.

New symptoms have been added to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) website, along with three previously recognized symptoms of fever, new and persistent cough, loss or change in taste, or smell.

According to the NHS, signs of COVID-19 that people should look out for also include: difficulty breathing; feeling tired or exhausted; body aches; headache; sore throat; stuffy or runny nose; loss of appetite; diarrhea; feel sick or ill.

A note on the NHS website adds: “The symptoms (of COVID-19) are very similar to those of some other illnesses, such as colds and flu.”
