Why do many Chinese parents not want to send their children to kindergarten?

In recent years, the fact that many kindergartens in China have been continuously entangled in scandals has made many parents hesitant to send their children to school.

As in early March, many people were seen standing in front of the gate of a kindergarten in eastern China. One holds a sign that reads, “Tell us the truth, get justice for our children.”

They are the relatives of a 5-year-old boy with the surname Zhao, who unfortunately passed away during his lunch break at the kindergarten on March 2. The school where the tragic incident happened is located in Anhui province of China.

The boy’s mother, Ms. Liu, holds a photo of her son standing in front of the school gate, saying that the real cause of the child’s death has been hidden, according to Btime.com.

According to the autopsy results published on March 15, the cause of Zhao’s death was acute pulmonary edema, a phenomenon caused by too much fluid in the lungs. But the autopsy report said no inflammation, poisoning or heart failure were found. While these are common causes of acute pulmonary edema.

Ms. Liu did not accept the results of the autopsy, and asserted that before her death, her son was completely healthy. The grief-stricken mother added that when her son was taken to the emergency room, the teachers at the kindergarten did not come along to check on the situation.

“When the ambulance arrived at the school and examined me, the medical staff informed me that my son had passed away,” said Ms. Liu, choking.

Before that, on the morning of the same day, Zhao’s grandmother took him to school. The boy’s temperature was checked and the results were normal. At noon, Zhao’s grandmother received a call from the school teacher saying that the boy was sleeping and had been taken to bed.

“The teacher said he was careless because he never came to check after putting my son to bed. When the teacher called his grandmother, he didn’t say anything about the boy’s discomfort,” Ms. Liu said.

But at 2pm on the same day, the school called Ms. Liu and her husband about baby Zhao’s nosebleed. When the couple reached the school, they found their child lying unconscious on the bed.

An ambulance was called, but the boy died before paramedics arrived.

The case is still under investigation and county officials said they have received information and are in contact with the parents of the male student who died.

This is not the first time that unfortunate incidents in kindergartens in China have worried many parents.

Most recently, on March 30, a kindergarten in Sichuan province was caught using spoiled vegetables and expired food to cook for students in the school.

Earlier, a female parent reported that her son was slapped and shoved by a preschool teacher. Another mother shared on the social network Douyin, “My son is over 3 years old and people often ask me why I don’t send him to preschool. I never answered this question.”
