Candidates who are sure to enter the university after the aptitude test

Winning 1,007 points in the capacity assessment exam, Nguyen Truong Tien, from An Nhon town, Binh Dinh confidently passed the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Technical Pedagogy.

Tien is among 117 contestants who have test score highest level in the first round of capacity assessment organized by Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City. Among 79,000 candidates who took part in the first round of competency assessment, the person who won the highest score was 1,087 points, the lowest was 210.

Before that, a male student from Nguyen Truong To High School applied for admission to the Information Technology majors of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education. Last year, two majors in Computer Science and Computer Engineering (University of Science and Technology) took the benchmarks of the competency assessment method at 974 and 940 points, respectively. Meanwhile, the University of Technical Education used this method of admission for the first time.

“I think I’ll pass because the gap between me and my best friend in the first round is not much different,” the male student said.

In order to get a high score in this exam, besides studying in class, Tien worked hard to learn more knowledge in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry outside. Most of the requirements in the competency assessment question are consistent with male students’ understanding. When entering the exam room, Tien calmly read the questions carefully, answering the questions in turn.

Similar to Nguyen Truong Tien, Luu Thai Toan (Nam Ha High School, Dong Nai) relieved the burden when receiving 960 points in the competency assessment exam.

This year, Toan registered his first desire to enter the Computer Science major of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, the second to enter the Information Technology major of the University of Information Technology. The benchmark for Information Technology last year was 905, so Toan confidently passed the university. The male student also hopes to enter the Computer Science major of Polytechnic University.

Toan said, I didn’t spend much time reviewing for the capacity assessment, mainly solving illustrated problems, self-assessing abilities and drawing experiences. “When I did the test, I spent 40 minutes solving the Language section, 60 minutes solving the Math part, 60 minutes solving the problem, and the rest time to review the questions,” Toan said.

In order to make sure to pass his dream of a Polytechnic University, Toan will try his best in the high school graduation exam – a necessary condition to enter the university. Having touched the university door with one hand, the male student feels comfortable in the coming months of revision. He has completed the 12th grade program, now moving to the practice test phase.

The results of the aptitude test are also an opportunity for many candidates to choose the school again after a year of not getting good results. Being a freshman at a university in Ho Chi Minh City, Vo Tran Khanh Nhi registered for a competency assessment to transfer schools and won 960 points. The score exceeded the female student’s expectations.

Nhi wants to study Finance – Banking, Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City – last year got 862 points. With a score nearly 100 higher than last year’s benchmark, Nhi is confident with her dream university entrance.

To prepare for the exam, the female student studied in the lecture hall and reviewed her high school knowledge. Nhi focuses on studying Math, participates in exam review groups on Facebook, and learns more about the remaining subjects. “This year’s topic is quite difficult, especially Biology and Vietnamese. The options for many questions are quite confusing, which takes a lot of time,” Nhi shared.

University enrollment figures for 2022 have not been announced by the Ministry of Education and Training. In recent years, about 900,000 to one million candidates have registered for the high school graduation exam. 70% of these apply for university admission. The total enrollment target of more than 240 universities and academies nationwide is about 500,000. This year there are about 20 methods of university admission.

Considering the results of the competency assessment exam organized by the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, is one of the enrollment options of 86 universities and colleges with more than 1,500 majors. The proportion of this method indicator accounts for 20-40% of the total targets in the southern schools. Particularly for the member schools of Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, this figure is 50-70%.

Benchmarks of capacity assessment in previous years had differences between groups of schools. In the group of top schools, member schools of Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City usually get 800-900 points; some industries over 950.

Meanwhile, the top middle schools usually take the benchmark of 650-750. This helps many candidates who do not get high scores but still get a chance to get into university.

Winning 730 points, Nguyen Vu (HCMC) confidently entered the Human Resource Management, Finance – Banking major of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. These industries took 650-670 points last year. The exam results are also used by Vu for admission to similar majors at private universities. “This year’s score is even lower than last year, so I think the benchmark may decrease or at least not increase,” Vu said.

The second round of competency assessment was held on May 22 in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, and An Giang. Candidates register for the exam and admission starting today 6/4.
