A driver has died after crashing his car into the gate of the Russian embassy in the Romanian capital Bucharest, but it is not clear whether the accident was intentional.

It is not clear whether this was an accident or whether the driver intentionally crashed the car. Police are investigating and have not released the driver’s identity.

The Russian embassy in Bucharest said it could not provide any details about the incident.

The crash came a day after Romania announced it would expel 10 Russian diplomats who failed to act in accordance with international norms. In the past few days, countries in the European Union (EU) have expelled about 200 Russian diplomats for “national security reasons”, following Moscow’s military operation in Ukraine.

Nearly 625,000 Ukrainians have fled to Romania, which shares a long land border with Ukraine, since Russia began its military campaign on February 24. About 80,000 Ukrainians are still in the country.
