Dozens of children in China’s isolated areas are crying because there is no one to take care of them, looking sad

While many provinces in Vietnam, even Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are trying to reopen in areas such as education and entertainment for children, in Shanghai (China) things are still very stressful. Entire cities are implementing blockade orders indefinitely to limit the spread of Covid-19. This is certainly very detrimental for small children.

Recently, the video recorded dozens of children, including babies, who were infected with Covid-19 and had to be isolated from their families for treatment. However, with no relatives to take care of and a lack of supportive nurses, the children fall into a state of helplessness and panic.

In the clip, babies and preschoolers have to share 3-4 children in one bed, even in hospital corridors. Many babies are not yet able to take care of themselves, so they are “covered” by a blanket, which is scary. The children were scared and crying but no one cared.

Separating children from their parents can be stressful and can change a child’s brain structure and behavior in the long term, experts warn. In response to trauma and similar bad experiences such as separation from a parent, children secrete high levels of cortisol (the stress hormone). This increased cortisol can have a negative impact on brain structure and connectivity, such as: slowing nerve growth, reducing the volume of important brain structures such as the hippocampus and affecting brain regions involved in effective emotion regulation.

In addition, numerous studies have demonstrated the deleterious effects of early trauma on children’s mental abilities, including high rates of depression, anxiety and other mood disorders, and high extroverted behavior.

Therefore, this kind of isolation not only affects health but is also unsafe for children, parents worry.

When a child is exposed to Covid-19, parents should not rush to isolate their child, but can monitor their health and treat them at home.

How can children with COVID-19 maintain good nutrition?

Dr Luu Thi My Thuc – Head of Department of Nutrition (National Children’s Hospital) said, it is very necessary to follow and follow the rules of proper nutrition, because nutrition supports and increases the “fence” protecting the body, helping children strengthen them. resistance, recover quickly, prevent the body from fatigue leading to malnutrition and limit severe complications after COVID-19.

According to Dr. Thuc, when a child with COVID-19 is treated at home, parents need to monitor their child’s weight and food intake regularly to see if there is a decrease compared to before and how much it has decreased. In addition, eating children at least 1 time a day has a balanced portion.

Thus, children should eat a variety of food groups, at least 5 of the 8 food groups (starchy group, milk and dairy products group, fat group, vegetables group, meat and fish group, eggs group, whole grains, dark green group- yellow vegetables).

There are some who believe that giving children foods or fruits that are highly alkaline and acidic will help kill the SARS-CoV-2 virus about certain foods that can kill the virus.

“Each type of food has its own value, for example vitamin C with immune-boosting effects is found in fresh fruits like grapefruit, oranges, and kiwi, but flavonoids, which are antioxidants, are found in dark green leaves such as cauliflower, broccoli. or vitamin E which plays a role in encouraging the development of immune organs, many are found in sprouts, soybeans…

So, children need to eat a variety of foods so that the body can receive all the nutrients it needs for growth and development as well as a strong immune system to fight disease. Certain foods cause imbalances in the diet.”Doctor Thuc suggested.

Dr Thuc also recommended that families limit their children from eating too many sweets, even if they have COVID-19, they should continue to breastfeed and take precautions as prescribed.

In case of children with poor appetite or inadequate intake, oral nutritional support formula with high energy density (1Kcal/ml for children over 1 year or 0.75-0.8kcal/ml for children under 1 year ) must be used. ) completely or partially replaces the conventional formula.

At the same time, avoid foods that cause vomiting and nausea with foods that children like, foods that are easy to digest and have high nutritional value. Monitor the child’s weight: every 3-5 days, if the child loses weight 1-2%/1 week, it is necessary to immediately inform the medical staff for proper instructions.
