Samsung users should update their phones immediately-Technology

Wednesday, April 6, 2022 13:30 PM (GMT+7)

Recently, security company Kryptowire discovered a serious security flaw on Samsung phones, allowing hackers to take control of the device.

Specifically, this vulnerability affects devices running Android 9 and up, including devices Samsung just released. The company was notified of the issue, and they fixed it through the release of the February 2022 security update.

According to researchers at Kryptowire, the vulnerability allows an attacker to perform a factory reset (i.e. erase all user data), make phone calls, install or uninstall apps, weakening the secure HTTPS protocol…and much more.

“Mobile apps are an increasingly attractive target for bad actors,” said Alex Lisle, CTO (chief technology officer) of Kryptowire.

Kryptowire tested Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, S10+ and A10e and found all three to be vulnerable to security holes. “Of course, this list is not exhaustive and this is simply to demonstrate that a wide range of versions and models are vulnerable,” the researchers added.

Vulnerability CVE-2022-22292 was disclosed on November 27, 2021 and is rated “high” severity. Samsung has patched the issue through the release of the February 2022 security update for all affected phones, including the Galaxy S9 (which has just been discontinued).

What you need to do now is access Settings and proceed to update the system to the latest version.
