The hotel that sits and watches the tiger cage is controversial in China-Travel

A hotel in China offers a unique service with suites overlooking the tiger cage as part of the Chinese Year of the Tiger experience.

Entering the year of the Tiger 2022, the Sendi Tribe Treehouse hotel, inside the Nantong Forest wildlife park, in eastern China’s Jiangsu province, plans to help tenants have unique experiences related to spirits. Animal of the year is the tiger. One of those experiences is “sleeping with tigers”.

The bedrooms are designed to be built close to the tiger cage in the park, separated only by a large glass wall. This allows visitors to fully see the tigers while sleeping, or eating in this side room. According to the hotel’s advertisement, the walls use tempered glass, which is explosion-proof, especially safe for tenants.

As soon as photos and short videos of the room scene were released on January 20, the hotel sparked safety concerns and criticism from residents regarding animal exploitation.

An official from the culture bureau and tourism of Chongchuan district, Nantong city said it would reevaluate the “special project” after it raised safety concerns and criticized animal exploitation.

Not only condemning the hotel, but many people commented on Chinese websites that they did not dare to rent this room: “How can I sleep when there is a beast walking around right next to it?”. “Sleeping while worrying about broken glass”.
