“Amazingly fast charging, nothing to worry about when riding an electric vehicle”

After the early stages, 2022 is considered the time when electric cars gradually become familiar to Vietnamese car consumers. No longer “scarce” as before, from 2022 many electric car models will be opened for sale by car manufacturers and traders in Vietnam.

Practical experiences of electric vehicles quickly become the focus of consumer attraction. And of course, the car battery – the part that worries many people the most is the main reason for this concern.

However, recently, the Kia EV6 car has made the experience extremely surprised.

“Charging in less than 18 minutes is enough to cover a distance of 200km. That makes me feel like I have nothing to worry about when using an electric car.” – that’s the assertion of Jordan Golson (currently working for Inverse) – who recently experienced the Kia EV6.

Let’s read, how are Jordan Golson’s reviews after actual experience with this car?

Experience Kia EV6 electric car

Kia EV6 is Kia’s first electric vehicle, launched globally in March.

– Designs: Sporty, slightly sloping roof, aggressive rear design, featuring unique LED taillights, sequential turn signals. While the front of the car carries a slender LED strip.

– Outstanding features:

Using 800V power architecture supports DC 400V and 800V fast charging.

The vehicle is developed based on the new electric vehicle architecture platform E-GMP (Electric – Global Modular Platform).

The Kia EV6 is capable of fast charging as well as recharging external devices through its charging port, meaning users can recharge their picnic equipment or sometimes temporarily power their home. when needed.

– Acceleration of Kia EV6: It only takes 3.5 seconds to hit the 100 km/h threshold.

The Kia EV6 electric car surprised the experiencers with its fast charging ability and usability performance.

The Kia EV6 uses an advanced 800V electrical architecture, supporting DC 400V and 800V fast charging (which is of course a bit expensive) while rivals such as the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Volkswagen ID.4 and Polestar 2 use charging systems. 400V is much slower. Electric vehicles with 800V charging architecture can charge twice as fast as 400V vehicles with the same amperage.

In fact, Hyundai/Kia is not the only electric vehicle brand to use an 800V charging system. Luxury brands like Porsche and Audi all have them. But Kia EV6 is the only popular Korean brand that uses an advanced 800V charging system.

It can be said that that is the highlight of this car and also the reason why the experience is so surprising.

With charging speeds like this, Kia EV6 comparable to Tesla. However, it is more remarkable that while Tesla only uses 400V electric architecture, the fast charging speed is equivalent to electric vehicles with 800V structure because the vehicle itself and Tesla’s charging cable are designed. to avoid maximum heat loss (such as super thick cable).

Of course, this could change in the future as automakers follow in Tesla’s footsteps, but doing so also makes electric cars much more expensive.

The charging speed of the Kia EV6 is comparable to that of a Tesla.

With the Kia EV6, Jordan Golson must emphasize that the 800V charging system is really fast. In just 30 seconds, the car charged more than 200 kW – half the time than the Ford Mustang Mach-E (according to testing conducted by InsideEVs).

As a result, Kia EV6 can charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes, much faster than Mach-E (about 45 minutes) and VW ID.4 (about 35 minutes), exactly the number given by the manufacturer. out. Also this charging port, if charging for 5 minutes can go 113 km.

If using the 11 kW charging port that comes with the car, the full charge time from 10% of the battery is 7 hours.

Another point worth noting is that the maximum charging speed of the battery is 80%. Normally, when this mark is reached, the charging speed will slow down to protect the battery. But while the Kia EV6 manages quite well, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is excruciatingly slow: 100 kW versus 12 kW for the same amount of time.

This is also because Ford engineers took great care in designing the charger to protect the battery. Choosing fast or prudent is up to the needs of the consumer. Anyway, in the affordable segment, Hyundai/Kia are doing quite well.

Kia EV6 can completely be placed next to Tesla cars in terms of charging speed – which is one of the advantages of the US automaker. The 18-minute charging time is still longer than refueling. But gas stations in the US often double as rest areas and convenience stores, so those 18 minutes shouldn’t be too much of a nuisance.

Admit it or not, the arrival of the Kia EV6 or the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is likely to put pressure on other electric vehicle manufacturers as the first entry-level models to demonstrate charging capabilities.

In October 2021, Thaco said it would put EV6 on sale in the second quarter of 2022. If Thaco sells cars according to this plan, this will be the third car company to officially sell electric cars in Vietnam. The first name is Porsche with the Taycan, then VinFast with the VF e34 to be launched on October 15, and Thaco with the Kia EV6 as the third name.

EV6 is Kia’s popular car model in the international market.

In Europe, Kia expects to sell 33,000 EV6 vehicles this year, three times more than its original target.

In South Korea, the number of orders reached 21,000 on the first day.

In the US, the car is sold with a limited number of 1,500 First Edition units and is expected to be delivered in early 2022, priced at $ 58,500.
