EMA authorizes fourth shot for people over 80 years old

The decision was made after the agency assessed data on a higher risk of serious illness in this age group and the degree of protection afforded by the fourth shot.

Regarding the fourth dose of the vaccine for the entire population, EMA said there is currently no clear evidence that immunity declines over time in people aged 60-79 years old as well as in those with under the age of 60 have a normal immune system. Therefore, the EMA cannot yet conclude on a fourth injection for these groups.

To date, the EU has licensed the use of COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and Novavax.
