“Meeting Vietnam will be very difficult because they have defeated Japan”
At the group stage of the 2022 Southeast Asian futsal tournament, the team Thailand won all 3 matches, topping Group A with 9 points, difference +31. This result helps the home team to face Vietnam futsal team in the semi-finals, while in the other semi-final, Indonesia will compete with Myanmar.
After the match against Malaysia yesterday afternoon (April 6), coach Carlos Cesar on the Thai side talked about the semi-final round against Vietnam with a cautious attitude. He recalled Vietnam’s victory over Japan and said that the upcoming match will be very difficult:
“I feel that the Thai team is still not really strong. I also want the fans to understand us, because every game is not easy. The matches are always tense and we still have to adjust to improve gradually.
Our players are still young, some have only been playing professionally for two years. Meeting any opponent is difficult and of course meeting the Vietnamese team will be the same. You know, the Vietnamese Nma team defeated Japan before reaching the 2016 World Cup finals. They are a strong team and meeting them will be very difficult.”
The Thai coach was very cautious when talking about the semi-final against the Vietnamese futsal team.
The captain of the Thai futsal team also admitted that his students made a number of mistakes in the match against Malaysia that caused them to concede a goal:
“We’re glad we won, but there were a few situations where we made a mistake. Things didn’t go as expected and Malaysia punished us by scoring two goals. Luckily we were able to come back.
Now, we have to go back to analyze the mistakes we made. We played underpowered against Malaysia. For sure, most of our opponents will play defensively and we need to minimize mistakes when facing them.”
Meanwhile, Thailand’s futsal team leader Suthin Buatum was also shy when speaking after the match against Malaysia: “The match against Malaysia is a difficult battle because both are determined to qualify. We have only shown about 70-80% of our ability.
Surely every team that meets us plays with determination and we need to overcome our shortcomings and play better in the upcoming matches.”
The semi-final match between the Thai futsal team and the Vietnamese futsal team will take place at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow (April 8).
