Clea Shearer of The Home Edit reveals she has breast cancer

Home Edit co-creator and Netflix “Get Organized with the Home Edit” star Clea Shearer has announced that she has breast cancer.

On Thursday, Shearer shared her breast cancer diagnosis along with a selfie with her Instagram followers.

“I have breast cancer” she writes in the post. “It’s a hard thing to say, but easier than keeping it to yourself. I’m having a double mastectomy tomorrow (prayers welcome!), and I’d like to say a few words before doing so.”

“I found a tumor myself in the last week of February,” she continued. “I’ve been trying to create an app with my gynecologist for several months, and even when I told them I found a lump, they couldn’t accommodate me. I had to ask my general practitioner for a mammogram, which led to an ultrasound, and then an urgent triple biopsy.

“I had two tumours, 1 cm each, which were very aggressive and fast-moving – but I found them early. If I hadn’t shouldered this on my own, I would be in a completely different situation right now. “

Shearer, 40, writes that she hopes her experience with breast cancer can help others.

“It is a personal choice to make this public, but sharing my experience makes cancer feel purposeful,” she wrote.

“If I could convince any of you to check in with yourself on a regular basis, stay self-advocating, and prioritize your health over busy schedules – it would make sense. It is important to note that I was under 40 when these tumors formed and there is no history of breast cancer in my family. Even if it feels like cancer is inevitable, it’s still very likely. ”

Shearer said she felt sorry for herself after being diagnosed, but tried to change her attitude.

“I have to admit, for the first few days I suffered from the ‘why me’ feeling,” she wrote. “But quickly, I started thinking ‘honestly, why NOT? I ?!’ I have all the support, resources and a platform to help others get through this. So if someone has to have breast cancer, I’ll gladly let that person be me. Thank you for your help. be on this journey. I love our community and you mean more to me than you will ever know.”

Shearer founded The Home Edit with Joanna Teplin and celebrity organization series, “Get organized with The Home Edit,” premiered in 2020 on Netflix, where it became a hit. The show returns for a second season on April 1
