Co-creator Doraemon dies at 88

Mangaka and Doraemon co-creator Motoo Abiko, better known by the pen name “Fujiko Fujio A” passed away on April 7, 2022 at his residence in Kawasaki Tokyo, aged 88.

The exact cause of Abiko’s death is still unknown. The police received a call, but when they arrived at Motoo Abiko’s apartment, they found the author dead. He is said to have not suffered any suspicious injuries.

Fujiko Fujio A is best known for collaborating with Hiroshi Fujimoto or Fujiko F. Fujio in creating the beloved manga and anime icon Doraemon, a robotic cat from the future who befriends a boy. Japanese baby named Nobita.

Doraemon has become one of the most popular anime characters worldwide. The franchise has had numerous movies, video games, and three anime series. The third Doraemon series began in 2005 and continues to this day. It remains one of the highest rated shows on television.

Motoo Abiko went on to create several other notable manga including Ninja Hattori Kun, Kaibutsu Kun, Pro Golfer Saru, and The Laughing Salesman. The Laughing Salesmen’s 2017 anime adaptation ‘The Laughing Salesmen New’ is his latest work to be animated.

Motoo Abiko or Fujiko Fujio A has certainly left her mark on anime and manga history. Millions of children around the world have been dreaming and having fun in the world of Doraemon and his friends.

The passing of Fujiko Fujio A will leave regrets for many generations of fans. Before that, his Doraemon co-creator friend, Fujiko F. Fujio also passed away in 1996.
