The study was carried out on British people who contracted COVID-19 after being vaccinated. But the person was asked to report their COVID-19 symptoms on the Zoe COVID app installed on their smartphone.
The study was published in the medical journal The Lancet on April 7 and will be presented at the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases later this month.

For the study, scientists from King’s College London, UK, analyzed two datasets:
– Data from June 1 to November 27, 2021, when the Delta variant accounted for more than 70% of COVID-19 cases in the UK.
– Data from December 20, 2021 to January 17, 2022, when Omicron accounts for more than 70% of cases.
Each of the above groups has nearly 5,000 people. They were compared 1:1 with someone in the other group of the same age, sex, and number of shots.
The results showed that disease caused by the Omicron variant lasted on average about two days shorter than that caused by the Delta variant.
Specifically, in those who received three doses of the vaccine, symptoms caused by Delta lasted an average of 7.7 days and those caused by Omicrons 4.4 days, or sometimes less than 3.3 days.
In those who received only two doses of the vaccine, symptoms caused by Delta lasted 9.6 days and Omicron 8.3 days, a difference of 1.3 days.
The shorter duration of symptoms suggests a possible shorter duration of infection…, which will affect office health policies and public health regulations, the study authors write. .
The study also found that people with symptomatic Omicron infection were 25% less likely to be hospitalized than those with Delta infection.
The Zoe COVID Research App, formerly known as the COVID Symptom Research App, collects data on self-reported symptoms.
The company ZOE Ltd was originally established to provide nutritional advice. This app is a not-for-profit initiative in partnership with King’s College London and is funded by the UK Department of Health and Social Care.
