Russia announced that the military operation in Ukraine could be completed soon

According to the news agency TASS Speaking to reporters on April 8, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow hopes the special military operation in Ukraine can be completed in the near future.

He noted that the campaign is still ongoing and is achieving its goals, while accelerating the negotiation process with Ukraine.

Meanwhile, on the same day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed that the negotiations between Moscow and Kiev are not easy, but Russia will find ways to achieve all the tasks set out.

Speaking to reporters after talks with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan, Lavrov said he had shared the progress of negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations.

Although the progress has not been very smooth, Moscow has assured that all the objectives set out for the negotiations will be fulfilled. He also said that Belarus should provide security guarantees to Ukraine in the future, once Kiev asserts its neutral position.

Foreign Minister Lavrov added:At the request of the Ukrainian side, their neutrality, non-participation in the bloc, non-nuclearization should be accompanied by security guarantees. Of course, we suggest Belarus should be among the countries that provide such a guarantee“.

Earlier, on March 29, direct negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations took place in Istanbul (Turkey). After the meeting, the head of the Russian delegation Vladimir Medinsky said that Moscow had received a written proposal from Kiev for an agreement.

In addition, he stressed that Russia is taking “two steps towards” Ukraine, offering to hold a meeting between the two presidents earlier than planned – and at the same time with the signing of a peace treaty at the level of foreign ministries. and the Russian military will reduce its activities in the areas near Kiev and Chernihiv.

Earlier, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to a call for help from the leaders of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in eastern Ukraine.

He stressed that Moscow’s plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories, but rather the demilitarization and neutrality of the Eastern European country.
