9x steps out of the ‘safe zone’ to study abroad

AustraliaMSc. Le Quang Tue – University of Adelaide said that the experience of studying and working as an international student made him have a drastic change in his outlook on life.

After graduating from Foreign Trade University, Le Quang Tue (born 1995) became a market analyst at Nielsen and won a Master’s and Doctoral scholarship for “Innovation and Entrepreneurship” (Innovation). and Entrepreneurship) at the University of Adelaide. Currently, he continues his academic career and helps teach the subjects “Startup Thinking and Foundations”, “Innovation and Creativity” at the University of Adelaide Business Institute.

In volume two of the series “Shine with Australia”, the master shared about the way out of his comfort zone to gradually achieve success. He assessed himself before studying abroad as a skeptic, selfish and secure. At that time, he envisioned some goals to strive for but was not confident enough to do it. “Sometimes, my behavior just hasn’t reached my limit,” he added.

The 2.5-year period of studying in Australia has helped him to understand himself, to love people and to be more aggressive and enterprising. MSc. Le Quang Tue recounted that he planned to study abroad very early because he loved to experience life abroad from a young age and was oriented by his parents. However, the stability from graduating from a top university in Vietnam and a job at a big company made him accidentally step into the comfort zone and let it grow.

“When I have such achievements, the bigger the comfort zone, the more I don’t want to get out of it,” added the master, born in 1995.

After about three years, he began to ponder, thinking about the past time, the way he was going and what he wanted to see in the next 3-4 years. From there, he realized his potential was being held by his comfort zone. Deciding to study abroad is the first step in a breakthrough in the journey out of procrastination and the embrace of parents.

From a “boy” born and raised in Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Tue felt sorry for the cold of Australia, when he returned home alone after a long school day. However, the image of a Chinese friend wearing two plastic bags riding a tram to deliver food created a “turning point” in his perception.

He started experimenting with jobs he never thought he would do. With a job as a kitchen assistant at a Vietnamese restaurant, for the first time, he washed hundreds of bowls and blistered his hands after coming home from work every day because of hot food. He used to ask himself why he made the difficult choice. However, he has never considered this as a shame, ready to answer his friends that his hair is smudged because of working part-time.

“I don’t consider myself a victim. This is my choice and I have to take responsibility for it. These small experiences have contributed to shaping, changing the worldview and values in my ideology for the future. so far,” he emphasized.

MSc. Le Quang Tue said that the ideology and way of education in Australia has contributed to creating the person he is today. One of his favorite things is his defiance of stereotypes. At university, students are always encouraged that there is no such thing as right or wrong. This is based on the given context. “When making an opinion, students have to dig deeper, gather information, research deeper and wider to reinforce and prove their point of view,” he added.

In addition, universities in Australia encourage and empower students. Students are in charge of their own learning. Schools and professors will create conditions for learners to find the most creative ways to study and research more effectively.

The balance between a scientific background and practice is also one of his favorite elements of an Australian education. At the University of Adelaide, practical things are always built on the basis of scientific research to ensure correctness and science. At the same time, students are given the opportunity to participate in competitions such as the Australian Echallenge with the activity of turning ideas into projects to raise capital and bring products to market. “Thus, this educational method allows me not only to learn theory but also to bring knowledge into a practical environment,” he added.

From there, MSc. Le Quang Tue advises young people, who intend to study abroad, should start taking action immediately to step out of their comfort zone, for example, can start from small things such as finding information. , learn foreign languages, live independently… Thus, you will not miss any opportunities.

“Faced with the big decision of life, we all have doubts. However, if we are determined to do it, it becomes the right decision, all good things will come,” he affirmed.
