After 6 years of Tran Lap’s departure, what are the remaining 4 ‘pieces’ of the Wall now?
Tuong Tuong – a popular Vietnamese rock band, was established in 1995, in which singer and songwriter Tran Lap not only sings and writes songs but is also the leader. He is considered one of the founders of Vietnamese rock. Tran Lap’s departure in 2016 due to rectal cancer left a big gap that made the Walls warp for a while, but they still maintain their passion for rock and the leader’s imprint is still present.
After 6 years since Tran Lap’s departure, the lives of the remaining members have changed a lot.
The Wall is the memory and youth of many generations of rock music lovers.
Guitarist Tran Tuan Hung
Tran Lap, Nguyen Hoang and guitarist Tran Tuan Hung were the first to form the band The Wall 1995. After the death of the leader of the group, Tuan Hung took the role of driving the band.
Tran Tuan Hung said that he and the group had intended to terminate the operation of the Wall after Tran Lap passed away. However, after that, all decided to continue the game so that the compositions of the late musician could live forever. Becoming the new leader, Tran Tuan Hung led Tuong Tuong to launch more music products and organize concerts gathering thousands of spectators. Recently, he joined the program Vietnamese Rock The first season as a coach, became the igniter for many young people with a passion for rock.
Tran Tuan Hung’s latest appearance was on April 8 at the show’s launch meeting Capital Alumni Party (taking place on the evening of April 16 at the University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi). He said that the Wall will participate in this night with many famous student bands and groups of the 1990s such as Hoa Sua, Golden Key, The Time, Weed, White Eagle, The Stairs, Morning Star, Desire, Beatles Building, The Light, Buratinox, Mutation, Wild Horse…
Whenever mentioning the Wall, Tran Tuan Hung is always full of emotions. He cannot forget the first memories that laid the foundation for the birth of this cult rock band: “The first time I attended a student prom at 16 Ly Thai To, and never before have I witnessed the image of the audience below holding each other’s shoulders and waving like a show. Music such international. Then when watching bands like Hoa Sua, watching singers in universities, I dreamed of one day standing on stage like that. Later, Tran Lap and I invited each other to form a band, named The Wall.
Guitarist Tuong Tuong Tran Tuan Hung shared at the launch of the program “Capital Alumni Prom”.
Currently, Tran Tuan Hung works as an architectural and interior designer. Most of his free time is devoted to music and cherishes plans to organize elaborate concerts, release MVs on anniversaries of the group.
The remaining 3 “pieces of the puzzle”
Three other members of the Wall, Nguyen Minh Duc – bass, Vu Van Ha – guitar and Pham Trung Hieu – drums joined the band at a later stage. Although they have not been together for a long time, they all have made significant contributions to the success of the Wall. Nguyen Minh Duc is the youngest member, often called the hotboy of the band.
After Tran Lap passed away, the three artists and Tran Tuan Hung continued to organize shows of the Wall to commemorate the late leader and mark the group’s memorable milestones over the past 30 years. Although they are busy with their own work, they have never been absent from group activities, from performing to other activities such as volunteering…
Tran Tuan Hung and Nguyen Minh Duc appeared together in the program “For the perfect new day”, broadcast in early March 2020.
Members of the Wall always carry Tran Lap’s microphone when participating in shows and programs.
Although Tran Lap has gone far, the remaining 4 members of the band still persist in keeping the fire of passion, so that the name Tuong Tuong always lives in the hearts of the audience. Attending any program or show, they always bring Tran Lap’s microphone, just like the late artist is still present with his members and audience.
