Las Vegas police drop Trey Songz sexual assault investigation

Authorities in Las Vegas have dropped a criminal investigation into sexual assault allegations against R&B singer Trey Songz without pursuing the charge, police said Friday.

In a statement, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department did not provide details about the charges but said the case could be reopened with new evidence.

The investigation began in November after authorities received a report of an incident at a hotel on South Las Vegas Boulevard.

Lawyers for Songz, whose real name is Tremaine Neverson, said the investigation “included findings of inconsistencies in witness testimony and insufficient evidence. We are pleased that Trey can now return to what he does best, entertaining. ”

Those claims could not be immediately verified.

Separately, Songz is being accused in Los Angeles on charges of “brutal rape” at a house party in California in 2016. A woman identified as “Jane Doe” in a civil complaint filed in February alleges Songz assaulted her when she repeatedly begged him to stop .

The lawsuit claims a sexual assault test conducted at a Los Angeles hospital found she was severely lacerated. NBC News has not confirmed the details of the exam.

Songz’s reps have denied these allegations.

In the third case as part of a civil lawsuit filed in December, Songz has accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a nightclub in Miami on New Year’s Day 2018. A spokesperson for Songz call those allegations falseand his legal team accused an attorney representing the plaintiff of tampering with a witness – an allegation the attorney denied.
