Real close to La Liga title

SpainCarlo Ancelotti’s teachers and students created a distance of 15 points from Barca with a 2-0 win over Getafe in round 31 of La Liga on the evening of April 9.

Returning to Madrid after the win Chelsea 3-1 In the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, Real continued to show the form of a championship candidate. The players in white pressed the field most of the time, holding the ball 68%, finishing 26 shots with nearly a third of them on goal. Getafe has eight shots but none of them are on target.

To prepare for the return leg with Chelsea, coach Carlo Ancelotti let Luka Modric and Toni Kroos rest from the beginning, however, Casemiro and two young midfielders Valverde – Eduardo Camavinga were able to control the midfield, helping Real take the initiative.

Karim Benzema played from the start and continues to be an inspiration in Real’s attacks. In the 5th minute he netted Getafe, but was disallowed for offside. In the 19th minute, the French striker passed as if to let Federico Valverde finish, forcing goalkeeper David Soria to lean over to block.

When the first half had seven minutes to start, Real also open the score. From Vinicius’s random outer cheek flick, Benzema jumped up to catch it, but Casemiro was able to fly parallel to the ground to hit the far corner of the table.

Getafe not strong enough to give an answer after the first goal. The team is ranked 14th continuously to lose the ball when intending to penetrate the penalty area. Enes Unal, the player who is ranked second in the race of La Liga’s top scorer with 14 goals, and Borja Mayoral, a former Real striker, seem out of place in the front line.

Even when adjusting personnel in the midfield and attack at the beginning of the second half, Getafe could not change the situation. By the 68th minute, their net continued to bounce. After Rodrygo’s right cross, Lucas Vazquez cut the left foot into the far corner, making it 2-0 for Real.

Coach Ancelotti has since taken Benzema, Casemiro, Vinicius and David Alaba out to recuperate. Substitutes like Gareth Bale, Dani Ceballos, Marco Asensio and Nacho could not increase the gap, but also contributed to completing the task of preserving the advantage.

The gentle victory helps Real get closer La Liga. Real now owns 72 points after 31 matches, more than Seville 12 points and Barca 15 points. Barca are playing less than two games. But with the current gap, Ancelotti’s teachers and students only need to win five of the last seven matches to bring home the 35th national championship for the club.

Ancelotti’s teachers and students only need not to lose more than one goal to win the right to continue. Since the beginning of the season, the giants of Madrid have just lost a match with a difference of more than one goal: 0-4 against Barca in the 29th round of La Liga.
