Vietnam rice export price highest in 3.5 months
The price of Vietnam’s export rice in March increased to $420 a ton for the 5% broken grade, the highest in three and a half months.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the export volume of rice in the first 3 months of this year reached 1.48 million tons, equivalent to 715 million USD, up 24% in volume and 10.5% in value compared to that of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. same period last year.
In particular, on the world market, the price of Vietnamese rice for export has increased to the highest level in the past 3.5 months due to stable demand and high transportation costs.
Specifically, Vietnam’s 5% broken rice is offered for sale at $415-420 a ton, up $20 from the beginning of the month. March average reached 414 USD per ton, up 16 USD per tonne compared to February.

Meanwhile, Thailand’s 5% broken standard rice was at $408-412 a ton, down $16 from the beginning of the month. The reason is that the lower baht leads to more competitive prices and boosts sales. However, logistics is still a challenge for the Thai rice industry because of insufficient ships and high freight rates.
In the domestic market, rice in the Mekong Delta provinces was more active in March when the price of winter-spring rice increased slightly compared to the previous month. Farmers have harvested a quarter of the winter-spring rice area in 2022.
Specifically, in An Giang, IR50404 rice is at 5,600 VND/kg, up 400 VND/kg compared to February average; high quality rice OM 5451 at 5,700 VND per kg, an increase of nearly 400 VND per kg; rice is usually at 11,000 VND per kg; jasmine specialty fragrant rice at 15,000 VND per kg.
In Kien Giang, rice prices also increased by 400-500 VND per kg compared to February. In Vinh Long, rice prices were stable.
