What should be done to reduce pressure on students when returning to school after a long time?

Teachers and parents, please make it fun for your children to go to school

Back to face-to-face school after months of being at home learning online, kids primary school student, from grade 1 to grade 5 seem to be relieved when escaping the scene of having to study, communicating with teachers, teachers and friends via computer screen or phone. Instead, they can meet teachers and friends directly with the blackboard, white chalk, classroom and playground. Eagerness and joy were common among the children.

Having fun is fun, but there is another problem that teachers have to re-forge all handwriting and learning habits. In addition, due to the urgency of the time, most schools still only allow students to attend 1 class a day without organizing day-boarding. This causes many parents to struggle and find ways to pick up their children.

The first graders were too surprised when they first met their friends, the first time they met their teachers in person. Even a rare incident when a student was brought to the wrong school by his father.

The Hanoi Department of Education and Training also requires schools to ensure safety against the COVID-19 epidemic, to organize part-boarding activities, and to teach 2 lessons a day based on the consent and voluntary consent of students’ parents.

Regarding the solution for students to adapt when returning to school, People’s Teacher Nguyen Thi Hien, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Doan Thi Diem Primary School – Hanoi said: “After a long time of online learning, children back to school, for the first time at school, many children seem confused.I have talked with the teacher and mentally prepared for the teachers before the children go back to school that they have to create a happy atmosphere. Have fun in the classroom. How do you make the children happy. The first lesson when the children come home, they have to tell their parents that they had a good time at school. The teachers at the school are like the parents of the students. At home, we must agree with each other to create a joy for the children to go to school. When the children are happy, they will study very well.”

“We also arrange the curriculum so that when the children return to school, they will not be surprised. For grade 5, we propose to teach the content for the transfer exam. There is no pressure on the children’s scores. We Also discuss with parents to agree with the school.Parents if they keep asking ‘how many points did you get today?’ It will put pressure on the children. The score is only part of the assessment. In the process of online learning, we also classify students. Good students continue to study to be able to enter specialized schools, selected classes. Weak students When learning online, focus on getting enough knowledge, ensuring that the children get to the lower secondary level in the best way,” shared Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien.

Should summer school, extra lessons so that students do not have knowledge gaps?

Obviously, even though he is a student, he is still under pressure for his grades, either from his friends around him or from his parents and teachers. Not to mention, a long time of online learning has also affected the psychology of children. According to psychologists, parents and teachers, it is necessary to pay attention to their own mental health these days.

Doctor Nguyen Viet Chung, Department of Mental Health, E Hospital, Hanoi noted a number of issues: “First, you may become afraid of the school environment because you feel that your knowledge is not well, going to school is afraid of teachers checking their work. Second, those who have problems with game addiction, somewhere when they go to school, they will have thoughts of skipping school, dropping out. Dong: too gentle, not communicating with people, you are easily bullied, this is also a big problem, parents need to pay attention.”

92% of primary school students in Hanoi went to school, according to statistics from the city’s Department of Education and Training. A number that indicates willingness on the part of families and schools to return to face-to-face school.

To understand more about what parents “want” when sending their children to school again, the Fanpage of VTV News has a small survey.

About 10 comments suggested that the school organize summer school to keep up with knowledge because of the gap. But on the contrary, there is also feedback that students need to take a break to play: “Reduce homework, reduce class time, too many subjects, elementary classes don’t need too much, study from morning to afternoon, there are lessons left in the evening. practice”.

Students from grades 1-6 have not been vaccinated against COVID-19, with a parent commenting: “After going to school, I sat next to exactly 1 F0 friend, so I stopped again, so what will the school do to support when F0 is sick? I have to take a break, how do I not have a gap in knowledge? How did the school prepare for vaccination?”.

Regarding summer school, People’s Teacher Nguyen Thi Hien emphasized: “I have never thought of sending my children to summer school after the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. During online learning, we ensure knowledge. The knowledge is not much less than face-to-face learning. But because of the situation that the children stay at home for a long time, we will open the school in June and July to create a playground for the children, join clubs and experience activities. . Online learning is hard work, going back to face-to-face learning and forcing your children to go to summer school is not advisable. It is that mindset that will affect children and create bad psychology.”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien also said that it is the responsibility of teachers to teach in order to minimize tutoring.

“Students need to learn on their own, have a sense of self-study. We still ask them to work in the evening for 15-30 minutes, but not to do homework, but to prepare for the next day’s lesson. At the weekend, we There are exercises to summarize, just right for the children” – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Doan Thi Diem Primary School said.

The fact that students have to study online at home is not only present in Vietnam, but a year ago students in many countries around the world had to study online for nearly a year. In Vietnam only later. It is right for children to study online to protect their health because after all, health is still the most precious thing, nothing can be bought.

When the epidemic is gradually settling down, it is natural for children to go back to school directly, because children need to have fun and learn properly, not all day just looking at the computer, how teachers and friends a screen.

The pandemic has changed the whole world, many things will not be the same as before and we are forced to adapt to the new situation. But hopefully, the school, teachers, parents and students will work together to make “every day at school is a happy day”.

And maybe, after the pandemic, the education industry will have the opportunity to renew itself, reducing pressure for themselves and for tens of millions of families.
