Artificial meat company Primeval Foods plans to bring a wide range of animal meat to market, including zebra, lion, elephant and tiger meat. But instead of hunting endangered animals, the startup hopes to produce meat by culturing cells in the lab.

This is a smart trend approach, especially since most of the company’s potential customers don’t know the taste of these meats. Primeval Foods looked for two Michelin restaurants in London to assess the quality of the meat.

According to the company, the method of cell culture allows them to produce food from any animal without affecting nature. However, like most artificial meat, production is still minimally dependent on live animals. Primeval Foods will select a small tissue specimen from the healthiest wild animals.

The company says big cats have unique amino acids and proteins, while elephants have more fat in muscle tissue. They are working with animals including the Siberian tiger, leopard, black panther, Bengal tiger, white lion, common lion and zebra, according to Yilmaz Bora, a manager at Primeval Foods’ parent company.

Primeval Foods is not the only company that produces wildlife meat. For example, startup Orbillion Bio is also looking to bring artificial elk sausage and Wagyu beef sashimi to market.
