Used and displayed electronics are in large inventory at many electronics supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City

Dien May Xanh Supermarket (HCMC) is discharging hundreds of thousands of inventory, display or used products. Accordingly, electronic and refrigeration goods in stock and on display are discounted up to 35%; Household goods inventory and display decreased by 49%. For used goods, the price drops from about 50% to more than 70% each product.

Electronics retailers said that in the past time, the epidemic situation and prolonged social distancing had significantly affected the consumption of goods, causing large inventories. Returned goods accumulated, could not be sold because customers tightened spending from mid-2021 to early 2022 and only started to be consumed again about 1 month ago. Retailers have no choice but to sharply reduce prices to stimulate demand and free up inventory.

Mr. Thai Van Toan – manager of an electronics supermarket in District 10, Ho Chi Minh City – said that customers often consider carefully between choosing goods for display or exchange. Because, due to the characteristics of keeping for many years, the technology is outdated, the colors are no longer glossy, even scratched by customers’ manipulation and trial use. Meanwhile, the returned goods may have small defects or simply because the customer is not really satisfied, the price is much cheaper than the displayed goods. “Because customers are hesitant, hesitate to spend money to buy, so we consume the goods very slowly” – Mr. Toan explained.
