Expansion of pilgrimage to Mecca

This number has been greatly expanded. Mecca will accept people from abroad, after two years of applying restrictive measures to control the COVID-19 epidemic.

Persons allowed to make pilgrimage to Mecca this year must meet certain requirements such as being under 65 years of age and having all the basic vaccinations. People coming from abroad must have a certificate of negative PCR test for COVID-19 and must comply with regulations to ensure medical safety.

Hajj is one of the five most important rituals of Muslims, held annually and usually lasts 1 week. This year’s holiday will be held from July 7-12.

In 2021, Saudi Arabia limited the number of attendees to 60,000 and only domestic people were allowed to participate. The above number is down to three-quarters from the 2.5 million participants before the epidemic broke out.

According to official data, before the outbreak of the disease, each year the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages brought in about $ 12 billion in revenue for Saudi Arabia.
