Hanoi’s private kindergarten has a ‘headache’ to find teachers

April 10, 2022 06:50 GMT+7

On April 13, Hanoi officially allowed kindergartens to reopen after a year of closure due to the epidemic. However, many private preschools have a shortage of teachers because they have changed careers.

The Hanoi People’s Committee has approved the proposal of the Department of Education and Training for preschool children to return to school directly from April 13.

According to statistics from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the city currently has 1,145 preschool education institutions with more than 525,000 children enrolled. In which, the number of children studying at private institutions is more than 158,000, accounting for 30%.

After nearly a year of suspending operations, many private preschools have fallen into the situation of no longer having full-time teachers because most of the girls have changed careers. Therefore, when Hanoi decided to welcome children back to school, recruiting teachers became more difficult than ever.

Knowing that the school was reopened, Ms Nguyenthihoa (owner of Anh Sao Kindergarten) posted an advertisement for teachers in groups on Facebook with a salary of 7-8 million VND/month.

However, in recent days, not only Hoa’s school but also other schools have simultaneously posted information about finding people, causing demand to increase, preschool teachers have become scarce.

According to Ms. Hoa, many preschool teachers have found other jobs with better salaries, others organize spontaneous class groups, so they also have higher incomes than school salaries.

Therefore, even though she posted a job advertisement for teachers 2 days ago, even accepting to lower the recruitment standards in terms of qualifications and years of experience, Ms. Hoa still has no application.

Preschools have started cleaning and sanitizing to welcome students to school next week.

In the same situation, Ms Nguyen Phuong Nga – The owner of two private preschools in Hanoi said that the Covid-19 epidemic lasted for more than 2 years, causing many preschool teachers at her facility to change jobs to other jobs. The number of people staying with her is now counted on just one finger.

“There are still a few days left for the kindergarten to reopen, but the lack of teachers is a common concern of many private preschools, not just mine.

My biggest concern is that preschool teachers are not enthusiastic about the profession because of low wages, hard work, fear of opening schools without teachers, it is also a headache,” Ms. Nga shared.

Nga’s two kindergartens have about 50 teachers and she takes care of them. However, up to now, there are not 10 people willing to return to work on April 13, causing Ms. Nga quite a headache to find people.

Ms. Nga accepts to hire good teachers and pays higher salaries and benefits, but finding people is still like finding a needle in a haystack.

Meanwhile, she Truong Thi Ngoc Bich – Principal of Kindergarten 10-10 (Hoang Mai district) said that the school has actively cleaned and redecorated classrooms and function rooms; repair electronic devices, outdoor toys for children as well as review equipment for epidemic prevention. The school will survey students’ parents to see how the rate of children re-enrolling in school, day-boarding meals to arrange staff.

However, the current difficulty that the school is facing is the lack of foster care staff. During more than two years of the Covid-19 epidemic raging, many employees working at catering companies or nursing staff in schools have changed jobs to make a living. Now that the kindergarten is open, calling this team back or recruiting a new one with a worthy remuneration is a matter of careful consideration.

Excited public school teachers

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Huong – Principal of Phuong Canh Kindergarten (Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi) said that since a few days ago, when Hanoi decided to let elementary students go to school directly, teachers in The school was very hopeful that Hanoi would continue to open up with kindergartens. Therefore, they are all actively preparing to welcome their students back. The school also actively propagates to parents to create consensus.

“We clean and disinfect, prepare a semi-boarding kitchen because this is very important for preschool children. The school also chooses to build a menu to strengthen the resistance and ensure the health of students when going to school. All work will be ready to the best extent possible to welcome the children back to school,” Ms. Huong said.

According to Ms. Huong, because children have been absent from school for too long, although this school year is not long, going directly back to school will help students when entering the new school year will be more disciplined. “The feeling is very happy, happy and we are looking forward to the day when we can welcome students to school,” Ms. Huong shared.
