The woman who lives with two graves
At night, Mrs. Van lays her bed next to the grave of her husband and son – who died nearly 4 years ago. Her husband and children have been resting peacefully behind the house for nearly 4 years, but Mrs. Van’s heart is still heavy with worries. Neighbors, at first, saw the two graves alone, but they soon got used to it, went back and forth to play, giving Mrs. Van this and that.
She recounted, her eyes welling with tears: “My husband has had a stroke for 17 years. This guy (pointing at his son’s grave) loves him so much, works hard to help me raise him, until he gets tuberculosis.
When he was still healthy, he went to cut grass, catch fish, carry rice, anyone who hired him would do anything. It can find any big fish, whatever is delicious, it will save it for dad to eat, not let anyone eat it all. Then when he was sick, he also tried to do it, saying that he would stay with his parents, not get married.
The place where it used to be was the kitchen, I turned it into a shed for her to live in. There was a time when he was very ill, he said: ‘If I die, leave me at home, don’t bury me in the field, I’m afraid of ghosts.’. When his father heard that, he was angry, overpowered, and shouted: ‘I’ll take you to the cellar, but stay there and bury it in the house’.
Who knows where it will soon be lost. I already took care of the burial place, but at home, I heard that he already dug a hole, so what should I bury it there.“.
Mrs. Van sat on the bed, where she slept next to the resting place of her husband and son.
Before she could recover from the loss of her filial son, exactly 3 months and 10 days later, Mrs. Van suffered the next shock: Her husband, because he was so sorry for his son, also passed away. On that day, he also left, telling Mrs. Van to bury herself above her son’s head. As much land left, Mrs. Van lived there. She also obeyed.
So, in a small piece of land, the house was rotten, and Mrs. Van only had an upper room for a bed, the poles were also broken, a table, and an altar cabinet. Behind are two tombs occupying all the space.

Perhaps, nostalgia and attachment have made the lonely woman not very alert, still knowing the difference between yin and yang but still looking forward to being with her husband early in the evening.
She sat in the house, but the sun was still “flooding”, because the corrugated iron sheets were already rotting.
In fact, in the West, many families have the habit of burying their loved ones in their garden. But that is with the houses with many estates, spacious fields and gardens. As for Mrs. Van’s house, the land is tight and the economy is poor. Even building a grave depends on the money from the neighbor’s aunt and uncle, perhaps because there is no other option.
Mrs. Van has four children, but two sons and one other daughter have married their own families, living elsewhere. They are also poor, sometimes giving their mothers a little something called comfort in old age, but they can’t support them.
