New York City Mayor Eric Adams tests positive for Covid-19
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has tested positive for COVID-19, a spokesperson announced on Sunday afternoon.
“This morning, @NYCMayor woke up with a hoarse voice and, out of an abundance of caution, did a positive PCR test,” press secretary Fabien Levy posted on Twitter. “At this point, the mayor has no other symptoms, but he has been isolated and will cancel [sic] all public events of the week. ”
Levy more that Adams, 61, will continue to work remotely and “immediately begin using antiretroviral medications that are freely available to NYC residents and encourage all New Yorkers to qualify.” receiving these drugs should also be taken.”
The announcement comes a week after Adams attended an annual high-level dinner at the Gridiron Club in Washington, DC last weekend, turned into a super viral event with at least 67 attendees tested positive for COVID-19, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Attorney General Merrick Garland, Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.
Adams was in the capital of the state of Albany it’s saturday for meetings with legislators.
Last month, the mayor remove the vaccine mission for in-house businesses, dining and events throughout New York City, after similar moves in Seattle and Boston.
According to the CDC, the BA.2 sub-variant of the omicron variant of COVID-19 now accounts for more than 70% of new virus infections in the United States, though cases are still low nationwide. The BA.2 variant also promoted a recent increase in cases in New York CityBut hospital admission and death rates across the city remain low.
