Detected a powerful laser that shoots through space, at a location 5 billion kilometers from Earth

A team of astronomers led by Professor Marcin Glowacki has discovered something interesting in space 5 billion light-years away. During a press conference, scientists announced a new discovery.

Using the MeerKAT telescope located in South Africa, scientists have captured the signal of a powerful radio wave laser, with the technical term “megamaser”. Previously, scientists had never detected a megamaser at such a distance; Light from this space phenomenon traveled 58 trillion kilometers to reach Earth.

From where does megamaser take shape? As far as we know, it occurs when two galaxies violently collide.

When galaxies collide, the gas within them thickens, and can act to force streams of light out.“, Professor Glowacki said. “This is the first hydroxyl megamaser event detected by MeerKAT glasses, and also the most distant event. [trong lịch sử]. Amazingly, with just one night of observation, we discovered a record-breaking megamaser. That also shows how powerful the telescope is“.

The team named the megamaser event “Nkalakatha”, pronounced “ng-ku-la-ku-ta”, which means “big boss” in isiZulu.

In the next study, the team will focus on locating the source of the Nkalakatha emission. Fortunately, the sky where the megamaser was found is already being observed by many telescopes, using different technologies such as X-ray, optical or infrared. Determining the starting point of megamaser is not difficult, but the research will not stop here.

The team continues to plan to track the megamaser’s movement, and as long as the project continues, we should see new findings.
