Employee injured in South Carolina workplace shooting dies

One of two people South Carolina workplace shooting died last week, the Anderson County coroner confirmed.

The county coroner’s office said in a statement the deceased has been identified as Iain Samuel Peare, 24, from Belton. The suspect, believed to be a former employee, also died shooting himself at the site, the coroner said before.

Anderson County Sheriff Chad McBride said the other victim suffered only one graze wound during the attack. NBC’s WYFF affiliate in Greenville reported that the weapon used was an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle.

Authorities told the station that the shooter and the company had broken up just a day or two before the attack.

Authorities said the violence at 10:30 p.m. on April 5 occurred at an unincorporated Anderson County industrial pipeline plant run by a German company called Fraenkische.

Police Chief Chad McBride said the shooter opened fire on employees as many ran to a nearby restaurant called Tipsy Tavern.

Authorities said about 30 workers were at the site when gunfire broke out. McBride said that by the time deputies arrived, the shooter had opened fire on his own.

The worst of the victims, Peare, was hit in the head and given life support at a nearby AnMed Medical facility, Coroner Greg Shore said by email.

The coroner’s office said he was declared at 3:26 p.m. Sunday.

Frauke Barnofsky, a spokesman for Frankische, said in a statement provided to WYFF“We are deeply shocked and our thoughts are with the victims and their families.”

The company is supporting employees affected by the attack and is working with authorities to understand the cause of the violence, Barnofsky said.

The shooting is still being investigated by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and officials investigating the shooting.
