Georgia coroner makes horrifying discovery: Parents and son killed

The victim of a triple murder in Georgia are the parents and son of the local coroner who made the gruesome discovery at a firearm his family owned, the official said Monday.

Coweta County Coroner Richard Hawk was unable to contact his parents and son on Friday as he went looking for them. at their Lock Stock & Barrel Shooting Range in Grantvilleabout 50 miles south of downtown Atlanta.

That’s where the coroner stumbles across an unimaginable crime scene and the bodies of his parents, Tommy and Evelyn Hawk, and his son, Luke Hawk.

Hawk told NBC News on Monday: “I didn’t get the calls officially, I’m the one who actually found them. “They weren’t at home the way they were meant to be and I went to check on them (at the shooting range) and that’s when (the discovery was made).”

Hawk declined to discuss the crime, fearing he could jeopardize the investigation: “We don’t have enough leads right now.”

About 40 weapons and a video camera were taken during the robbery that took place between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Friday, the police said.

Investigators are asking locals if they have seen any vehicles – other than a white Ford truck or a black Ford SUV – near the shooting range Friday afternoon.

Department Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Grantville Police Department are both investigating. A $15,000 reward is being offered for any information that leads to the arrest or conviction of those responsible.

Coweta County Sheriff Lenn Wood called the deaths “meaningless and tragic,” saying Friday’s killings left the community “hurt, hurt, and very few answers.”
