Two years ago, a customer stopped by and ordered a cake shaped like dried fish – a specialty of Ca Mau – to give to his lover, because the girl’s family sold this product. Minh accepted even though he had never done it before. To shape the cake according to the customer’s idea, she scoured foreign YouTube channels, as well as groups that teach baking, but couldn’t find any more information.

“Therefore, I envisioned the design in my head and followed my ideas,” Minh shared. With the first cake of dried fish, it took her 5 hours to complete.

With the cake’s core like many other cakes, the decoration of shrimp, crab, dried squid… was molded by Minh from fondant sugar candy – a decoration material made from fine white powdered sugar.

“Decorating cakes with fondant is a technique to create beautiful cakes like works of art,” Minh said.

In Vietnam, she was the first person to create and implement this realistic style cake.

The strength of the cakes created by Nhat Minh is the variety of designs and lifelike, even difficult shapes such as shrimp, crab, dried squid… According to Minh, with the usual line of cream cakes. If the maker often focuses on color, with realistic cream cakes, from the selection of ingredients to decoration, there must be observation and shaping techniques to make the cake look lively and soulful. This criterion completely depends on the aesthetic as well as the actual color perception of the maker.

After posting online, Minh’s authentic cake has been ordered by many people. Every cake is carefully cared for by her. For each real cake, workers need 3-4 hours to complete.

“Before I start creating, I have to visualize that model in my head, size, layer by layer, color and composition,” she says. In order to understand the structure of each part as well as the color of the model, there was a time when Minh had to sit for hours watching cartoons to capture ideas and make a cake according to the customer’s request.

Minh compares the job of making real cakes to like copying the most beautiful things of nature, needs a delicate and meticulous eye to observe, recognize the difference in color, gloss… and then simulate it on the cake. . She shared that because she did not have a teacher, she made many mistakes at first. Each time, you have to do it again and again dozens of times.

Up to now, the 28-year-old girl has made about 30 cakes of this type, priced from 800,000 VND, depending on the size and complexity.

Minh’s cakes received an enthusiastic response from customers. Mr. Hoang Long, a regular customer of hers, said that realistic cake made him excited, not only beautiful but also unique. “I used to ask for difficult shapes but Minh has never failed,” this man said.

In addition to authentic cakes, Minh also makes modern cakes, catches flowers with decorative accessories… In the future, she plans to learn about modern decorated cakes suitable for many ages and prices. to give customers more choices.
