“I didn’t think much of it at the time…”

On the morning of April 11, the Traffic Newspaper had a quick exchange with Lieutenant Thai Ngo Hieuan officer of the Police Department of Fire Prevention and Rescue, Trang Bom District, Dong Nai Province Police, and was told by him the moment he saved 4 drowning victims at Phuoc Tinh beach (Long Dien district, Ba Ria province) – Vung Tau).

Lieutenant Thai Ngo Hieu said that on the occasion of the holiday, he and his family and friends went on vacation to Vung Tau beach.

Around 9 am, while bathing in the sea, he discovered people shouting that someone was drowning, and Hieu quickly swam across the accident area.

At this time, a group of 5 young people from 20 years old unfortunately drowned, the sea waves crashed. The incident happened very quickly, causing panic among the people around.

While swimming through the area of the accident victims, Mr. Hieu directly pulled a group of people out of the water to the shore. All the victims were brought ashore in a state of unconsciousness, purple limbs.

With skills and professional training in first aid, the male police officer quickly performed CPR, squeezed the heart outside the chest and saved the victim’s life.

“I’m a lifeguard, my conscience won’t let me stop”

Talking to Dan Tri, Lieutenant Hieu, 33 years old, said that at the time of the accident, the swimming area was only with the group of victims and his family there. Artificial rocky shore – the area where the victims swim is about 40m long, more than 30m from the shore. The inside of the rocky shore had no waves, at first the victims gathered there, then they encountered unusually large waves, so they clung to each other, swept away by the waves.

Swim to the place, Mr. Hieu climbed onto the rocky shore, looked down and saw that the group was dying. Waves swept them out to sea more than 10m from the rocky shore. In it, a girl fainted, was hugged by a young man.

Mr. Ngo Hieu, jumped down, swam to the spot and hit the young man’s hand hard, separating the two. He pulled the girl and pushed 2 other young men to the shore at the same time.

At that time, Hieu heard the voice of his friends on the shore: “Hieu, be careful. Don’t try”.

But without time to rest, Mr. Hieu returned immediately. Fortunately, just swimming to the place, local people were present and saved 2 more people in trouble. The last person was then pulled to safety by Mr. Hieu.

“Before that, I had been swimming for a long time, my body was tired, so people were afraid that I wouldn’t be able to save the victims, sometimes affecting their lives. But at that time I didn’t think much of it, just thought how to save it. I’m a lifeguard, my conscience won’t let me stop.”Lieutenant Thai Ngo Hieu said with the above source.

Unlike her friends, Ms. Van Anh (33 years old, Mr. Hieu’s wife) did not stop her husband but encouraged and empowered him to swim back to the sea for the second time to save lives.

“I’m so sorry… because there are people who can’t be saved”

When knowing that one more victim was still missing, Mr. Hieu and the officers and soldiers of the Ba Ria – Vung Tau Police force continued to organize the search, but when they found the victim, they did not survive.

“Despite my best efforts to search, I could only bring 4 victims to shore. Unexpectedly, there were still missing people who had been submerged in the water before, so I couldn’t be saved. IAM sorry…”Mr. Hieu said in the Traffic Newspaper.
