John Lennon’s son performs ‘Imagine’ for the first time to show support for Ukraine
Julian Lennon performed his father’s “Imagine” for the first time on Friday, saying he was inspired to sing the peace anthem to show his support for Ukraine.
In one the video was shared on his Instagram accountThe 59-year-old singer can be seen singing his late father’s song in a candlelit setting.
Lennon wrote in his post: “The war in Ukraine is an unimaginable tragedy. “As a person and as an artist, I feel compelled to respond in the most meaningful way I can. So today, for the first time, I performed my dad’s song publicly for the first time. I, IMAGINE.”
In the caption, he elaborates on his decision to perform the iconic song.
“Why now, after all these years? – I’ve always said, that the only time I would consider singing ‘IMAGINE’ if it was ‘Doomsday.'” he wrote. “But also because his lyrics reflect our collective desire for peace around the world. Because in this song we are transported to a space where love and togetherness become our reality, if but for a moment…”
“The song reflects the light at the end of the tunnel, which we were all hoping for…” he wrote.
