From a foreign language student to owning 2 brands, buying a house – buying a car at the age of 25
Starting as a foreign language student, with no knowledge of finance or business, Tran Thao has earned an income of 2 billion/month at the age of 25 with 2 self-employed brands.
At the age of 18, Tran Thao became a student at the Department of Chinese Language at Hanoi University. However, she realized that she was not too gifted with the language industry, so she turned to Business.
Tran Thao confided: “Once I was okay in the Listening – Speaking – Reading – Writing skills of Chinese, I noticed that there is a huge difference in career if you don’t excel in this major. Or, your family. must have a relationship in the profession, otherwise it is very difficult for you to achieve success.
At that time, I came up with the idea of studying Business. When you go to business, you will learn high skill sets. Once I have that skill set, it is very difficult for me to be replaced by the market, simply saying ‘you can make money anywhere you put it’. It is sales skills, copywriting skills, marketing skills…”
Although she came from a Chinese language student and turned to another job, Thao confided about working in this industry: “For me, going to university taught me many things about relationships, how to communicate with people around. Learning a foreign language equips me with a very good tool, which is English and Chinese.
In addition, I also play very closely with my friends in the English department, and have quality relationships. There are people who then also collaborate and work with me. So when going to university, students should determine what they want, what they learn.”
A big event came to Tran Thao and completely changed the motivation and thinking of the female student at that time. That’s when she accidentally set fire to her parents’ cargo car in her freshman year of college – which was considered the family’s “living” tool at that time. Total damage including burned goods, badly damaged car… was estimated at nearly 200 million VND.
“When I came out, I saw the car was on fire, I didn’t think it was real, because it was too similar to the movie. I couldn’t say anything to my parents because I knew I did something wrong. Luckily. parents are very understanding, knowing that if there is a fault, they are ready to leave in the night, that’s why they kept quiet and pretended that nothing happened.
The story that burned the car was like a drop of water that overflowed the glass, turning into a motivation to change my life at that time. I know what I need to do to repay my parents. In the summer of that year, I started my business with secondhand goods, then imported goods from Guangzhou, and finally made my own designer clothes. – She confided.
When she first started, Tran Thao’s business was smooth until she encountered problems related to partners, network of collaborators, and sources of goods. From the business of achieving ideal growth, the number of orders reached gradually decreased from 70 – 80 orders to 5 – 10 orders/day.
When faced with a large drop in profits, she determined only dedicated to a group of customers. Specifically, instead of selling basic products to everyone, she turned to the women’s product business, focusing only on high-priced products. Customers are those who are willing to pay and love the value of that garment.
And when turning to establishing a company in the field of training people who want to do business – a very new field in the Vietnamese market, Tran Thao has also successfully applied this philosophy, and gradually reached the profits up to billions of dollars.
“My disadvantage when pursuing this field is that many people think that those who teach business are just ‘drive chickens’ and if they can’t do it, they will teach. However, people don’t realize this is a very large and growing industry abroad. At that time, I only focused on training for people with a positive outlook who were serious about learning. They realize the value of learning and are willing to accompany them.”
Tran Thao also shared, in business, the most important thing is that you need to focus on your work. That is also the reason why, despite having a huge income, she still refuses to participate in the most popular “profitable” forms such as real estate business or stock investment.
“If I play the stock market or do real estate, I can’t fully focus on the business. As a result, my job may fail, because I can’t do everything well.
From my point of view, when we invest everything in the business, such as investing in people, equipment, relationships… then that work will grow more and more. And even when I have a business failure, as a business owner, I know where this failure comes from, so I can change and fix my weak skills.

In business, instead of selling products to many people, she chooses to serve a few, selling at a high price to those who have a high demand for the product. However, to reach high-segment customers, the employees themselves must also be valued. That is, they must be highly skilled, with a decent salary.
“My employees are all paid very high compared to the market, in return they are skilled people, from which they can bring good revenue and profits for themselves. In business, employees are ‘level 1 customers’, and real customers are ‘level 2 customers’. In fact, nNew employees are people who have direct contact with customers, generate revenue or profit.
Each employee is both a representative image to make a brand and sell goods. When I have a team of qualified and united personnel, I don’t need to do strategy or do PR for the business, because all staff are indirectly making an image for you.” – She shared.
Currently always sleep before 9pm, wake up early at 4am
She said there was a period of crazy work, which seriously affected her health. But up to now, she herself realizes that investing in herself, especially in health, is the difference that makes successful people. That is also the reason why she maintains positive habits such as sleeping before 9pm, waking up at 4am and always spending 2 hours a day meditating.
“The fact that we go to bed early or eat dinner early not only helps us focus better on work, but also balances sleep and has better health. When we make big goals, we can’t just work hard. , focus on business development, but also have to make long-term investments for themselves. In it, there are aspects that many young people do not want to pay attention to, which is eating, sleeping, resting.” – Her friend Gen Z commented.
Tran Thao worships self-study, but learning must be accompanied by action. That is, in the process of self-study and self-employment, you need to really start doing it. From there, we can draw lessons and find the right direction instead of just learning all knowledge according to normal book theory.
“When I was a foreign language student, the knowledge in the lecture hall was very academic. And for a foreign language student who is not good at finance and doesn’t know much about numbers and marketing to think about doing business, it would be very difficult. difficult if you don’t actually get to work.
I always jump to work first, then study because then I already know what my problem is. I know what books I need to read, find courses or meet teachers to give me advice to solve problems. Usually people are afraid of failure, or just read a lot of books and still don’t change everything. My difference is that I dare to do it, and I accept failure to find a solution.”
“If your brand wants to make a breakthrough, your product must be different. Different is always better than ‘best.’ Because when you are different, you will always be placed in a place of your own, customers have to find it for themselves.
