Foreign Minister Lavrov also criticized the latest statement of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Josep Borrell after the EU diplomat said that the crisis in Ukraine should be resolved through military measures. Mr. Josep Borrell also called on the member states of the bloc to supply Kiev with the weapons they requested.
Mr. Lavrov noted that the rules had changed significantly after such statements. “This is a serious change in policy pursued by the EU and the West after Russia started its special military operation in Ukraine. A policy that reflects anger unduly and of course is determined not only by the situation in Ukraine but also by the fact that Ukraine is being turned into a stronghold for the suppression of Russia.”
On the same day, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said that the European Union was “discussing a sixth package of sanctions” in an effort to “continue to increase pressure on Russia to stop the war”.
