Shanghai sets another sad Covid-19 record

According to Reuters, Shanghai on April 10 reported 26,087 Covid-19 cases, the highest ever. Shanghai’s number of Covid-19 cases increased continuously after April 3, when only 9,006 cases were recorded despite the strict blockade order in the East region on March 28 and the Western region. on 1-4.

Shanghai’s previous record of Covid-19 cases was 23,600 on April 9.

It is unclear when Shanghai authorities will lift the Coid-19 restrictions amid complaints from local residents about difficulty accessing food and medical care.

Ms. Ton Minh, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, admitted shortcomings in handling the latest Covid-19 outbreak. Ms. Ton also praised the support of the public and frontline medical staff, while emphasizing the need to improve epidemic handling measures.

One important problem facing Shanghai is food distribution. The Shanghai Commerce Commission called for allowing distribution centers, supermarkets and pharmacies to operate online as much as possible. E-commerce company JD.com Inc. announced on April 9 that it had been granted a license to deliver to Shanghai and held an online sale that attracted more than 3.5 million participants.

In other parts of China, the battle with the new Covid-19 outbreak continues. The city of Guangzhou is implementing a series of restrictions after detecting 20 cases of Covid-19 last week, and warned that the Omicron variant may have spread in residential areas. All schools in Guangzhou are closed until April 17 and the city will conduct mass testing.

In the capital Beijing, a high-risk area was locked down after recording eight cases of Covid-19 in the past two weeks, according to the deputy director of the Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

As of April 11, China reported a total of 165,577 cases of Covid-19, 4,638 deaths and 138,544 recoveries.
