Spend thousands of dollars renting a super car to go home for the holidays

Hari Raya Festival (the festival marking the end of the Muslim month of fasting) in early May will be the first time the Southeast Asian country has lifted all lockdown orders over the past two years. As a result, people are free to move around and many will be reunited with their families after a long separation.

Among them, many have made a deposit to rent a luxury car for the journey home. The demand for car rental is also starting to increase day by day. According to China Presssome people accept to spend up to 1,900 USD a day for a supercar.

Azam, manager of car rental company AHMJ, said the reservation list was already very crowded. The most popular car models are Toyota Alphard and Vellfie. But there are customers who are willing to pay close to $1,000 for a Nissan GT-R and up to $1,900 for a Lamborghini Aventador.

AHMJ has many other high-end models, such as BMW i8, Audi R8, Porsche 911, McLaren supercars or Rolls-Royce super cars, Ford Mustang muscle cars, a range of Range Rovers or Honda Civic Type R models. If you have a limited budget, you can still rent a car, like a domestic model Perodua Myvi for only about 30 USD per day.

The trend of renting luxury cars for the holidays is not new in Malaysia, when customers can spend $4,800 for a week to drive a BMW during the Hari Raya festival. In 2018, the festive season alone brought the car rental industry about $2.37 million.

There are many reasons for renting a car. People who want to create style, impress; someone whose car breaks down should be rented for a temporary ride; and many others who do not have their own car because they usually use public transport or motorbikes.
