Staff has a challenging attitude to me

A colleague entered the company before me, the degree is also better than me, but the personality is not very good.

I am 40 years old, deputy director of a branch of a private enterprise. Five years ago, I was hired as an employee. Within three years I was promoted to deputy director, then department head, deputy director and acting branch manager.

A colleague was jealous of my quick promotion. He is envious, works in a “finished business” style, so he does not receive the trust of his superiors. I was evaluated by the leadership and colleagues as not too good but extremely diligent at work, honest and straightforward, never flattered my boss to advance. After becoming the acting director, I made many strict decisions to improve work efficiency; promulgating rules on working hours, working style and coordination processes. After three months, the company has made positive changes.

However, at this time, the management appointed another person to be the director, who made regulations that were almost the opposite of mine. Therefore, the other colleague challenged me, came to work late, took leave from work without permission, and sometimes left early without comment even though I was there. When assigned a job, he said he didn’t know how to do it, had never done it, was not responsible, and then pushed it to others. Entering the office, he turned on loud music, put his feet on the table, did not wear a uniform, only reported the work to the general group as he was considered to be out of responsibility, did not offer a plan to overcome the outstanding problems but pushed all for me.

>> Many times assigning tasks that employees do not do

I have made many suggestions by texting, talking privately but frankly, but I can’t, I also give general suggestions in meetings. I consulted the management board many times to correct that employee’s attitude, but the branch manager did not take any action. After each meeting, that person showed more and more defiant attitude, openly coming to work late, working separately during working hours, leaving early.

I discussed with my wife that I would quit my job and find another job, but in a small town, there are not many jobs in the right major. On the other hand, I am also old, it is very difficult to find a job. My wife always encourages me to overcome, do not pay attention to what to do. When I entered the company, I only knew how to wear headphones and then work, avoiding contact with that person as much as possible. I recently received a text message that the person spoke ill of me to another co-worker. I read the entire content before he noticed and retracted the message. I’m stressed, don’t know how to relieve the frustration inside. I want to quit my job, but when I think about my wife and children, I suppress my emotions, what should I do?
