Thieves dare to cut 500 tons iron bridge in India
A gang of thieves dismantled a 500-ton iron bridge in the east India.
The brazen iron bridge theft was reported from April 6 in Bihar state, Indian police reported over the weekend. Bihar is one of the poorest states of India.
Police officer Subhash Kumar told AFP that the iron bridge thieves were posing as government irrigation officials to carry out the demolition.
The iron bridge thieves brought bulldozers and steam cutters to destroy the plow within two days and then escaped with the recovered iron, Mr. Kumar said.
“They transported the scrap in a heavy vehicle,” the police officer added.
Indian thieves have demolished the more than 50-year-old structure, which was built on a canal. This old iron bridge was already decommissioned after another nearby bridge was put into operation five years ago.
Indian police have opened an investigation into this strange cheeky theft but no arrests have been made so far.
