Tiger Woods satisfied with the results of Masters 2022

“The road back is difficult. I am happy to have the opportunity to compete and the ability to work hard during the Masters,” Woods said after the closing round on April 10. “This is a very meaningful tournament for me and my family. The former world number one golfer chose this year’s Masters for a rematch after nearly 14 months of convalescing due to a traffic accident that nearly lost his leg in February 2021.

In the opening round, Woods hit 71 strokes, standing T10 (-1). In the second round, he stood at T19 (+1) by 74 strokes, while the cut line was +4. At that time, Joe LaCava – Woods’ gut caddie – said: “Tiger cut off with one leg”.

But after the third match, with 78 strokes, the owner of the 683-week record of holding the world number one fell to T41 (+7). In the final round, Woods’ record was still 78 strokes.

The last two matches also established a new bottom for Woods through 94 Masters rounds. The previous worst round was at 77 strokes, at the penultimate stage of the 1995 Masters, when Woods was still an amateur.

Woods has won the Masters five times, the first time in 1997, at the age of 21. The fifth coronation in 2019 helped him establish the current 15 major victory.

When asked if he counted the recent Masters result as one of his major achievements, Woods replied: “Certainly, when it comes to tournaments I haven’t won.”

Yesterday, Woods wore a red shirt and black pants according to his personal tradition. Despite the break, the audience cheered as Woods limped up the fairway on hole 18. “We love Mr. Tiger”, one fan shouted. The crowd continued clapping for the former world number one after his par putter, which lasted until he entered the clubhouse to sign for the point.

Then Woods left Augusta National after committing to major The Open in July, and left open the possibility of competing for the PGA Championship in May.

Through 26 years of professional with a record of 82 PGA Tour titles, Woods has been on the operating table 10 times, of which five times are left knee, the rest in the back. Particularly the 10th surgery – cervical vertebrae – took place about seven weeks before the accident that nearly lost his leg.
