Forget the ‘gold mine’ in the country

As noted by PV Tien Phong, after increasing the selling price in March, from the beginning of April until now, large feed producers have continued to adjust their selling prices. From April 1, CJ Vina Agri Co., Ltd. increased 400 VND/kg with all concentrated feed, piglet and cow feed. In addition, the company also increased 300 VND/kg with feed for sows, meat; broilers, laying; ducks raised for meat; goat…

“The potential for processing and reuse of agricultural by-products in Vietnam can bring value up to 4-5 billion USD/year, but in reality, only about 275 million USD has been exploited. While every year we have to import about 10 billion USD of raw materials from abroad to produce feed. Representative of the Institute of Livestock Production

Similarly, Greenfeed Vietnam Company also informed the agent system to increase 300-400 VND/kg for products depending on type. Particularly, Viet Trung Feed Co., Ltd increased up to 500 VND per kg for some products. CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company, after increasing by 400 VND/kg for piglet feed and 300 VND/kg for compound feed… in March, it has just continued to increase by 400 VND/kg for most. livestock products.

Prices of feed products continue to increase, domestic farmers face difficulties

According to enterprises, the reason for the increase in prices is that the price of imported raw materials for feed production continues to rise due to adverse weather from the main growing areas in the world in South American countries. At the same time, the tension between Russia and Ukraine also has a great impact on the price of corn and wheat in the market.

In the past 2 years, feed prices have increased continuously by about 13 times, each time increasing from 200 to 350 VND/kg. To reduce the price increase of this item, at the end of 2021, the Government decided to reduce import tax on some materials such as wheat from 3% to 0%, corn from 5% to 2% to support farmers. . However, while people have never been notified of a discount by businesses, from the beginning of 2022, feed prices continue to escalate.

Mr. Nguyen Van Chien, Director of Duc Thang Agricultural Cooperative (Phu Cu, Hung Yen) said that with the current price of feed, small farmers, even farms, mostly fall into losses. Especially, from 2021 to now, hog price continuously plunging makes farmers more and more difficult.

“There was a time when the price of live pigs dropped to about 30,000 VND/kg, every day the cooperative lost hundreds of millions of dong every day. At that time, we were in a dilemma, we couldn’t sell it, but we couldn’t keep it. From last year until now, many households in the commune have temporarily stopped re-herding, even many households are leaving the barn empty,” said Mr. Chien.

Statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development show that the potential for processing and reuse of agricultural by-products in Vietnam can bring in value up to 4-5 billion USD/year, but only about 275 million USD has been exploited in reality. . While every year we have to import about 10 billion USD of raw materials from abroad for production animal feed.

Talking with PV Tien Phong, Dr. Chu Manh Thang, a representative of the Institute of Livestock Production, said that Vietnam’s agricultural production meets the needs of 100 million people and has a surplus for export. Currently, many by-products from aquatic products, cultivation, animal husbandry… have great potential to produce animal feed, but have not been utilized, and are very wasteful.

For example, post-harvest crop by-products such as rice straw with 42.8 million tons, corn stalks with 10 million tons; vegetables and fruits 3.6 million tons, cassava stalks 3.1 million tons, cashews 3.1 million tons and others 6.1 million tons… but only a small part has been exploited. Slaughter by-products (organs, blood of cattle, poultry) in advanced countries are used to produce feed materials, but in our country they are mainly used for human consumption.

According to a representative of the Institute of Livestock Production, if locally available materials are used as animal feed, it can help reduce the price of animal feed by 300-1,000 VND/kg.

“After the process of researching and testing using these products to make feed, we found that the product has nutritional value equivalent to that of mixed feed products produced from imported materials. If we can reduce the cost of GROWTH 3%, it will help reduce the product cost by 2%, “said Mr. Thang.

Nguyen Kim Doan, Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Livestock Association, said that with the current increase in the price of animal feed, many farms are at risk of “hanging” cages, and at the same time the recovery of livestock production after the COVID-19 epidemic. -19 will be even more difficult. To reduce dependence on imported raw materials, according to Mr. Doan, the Government should have policies to encourage enterprises to process agricultural by-products into animal feed.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said that with the price of raw materials for feed production continuing to remain high, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is proposing to reduce income tax for businesses producing animal feed, and at the same time to adjust the structure of the animal feed industry. pets in the direction of increase rise Castle eat grass, reduce pig and poultry raising. In particular, in the near future, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will coordinate with provinces and cities in the Central Highlands and enterprises to establish cooperatives, focusing mainly on growing cassava and maize to proactively source raw materials for animal feed and reduce animal feed costs. gradually dependent on imports.

Mr. Tien advised businesses to reduce the stages of commercial distribution of animal feed because most of them are going through many intermediary agent channels. For businesses that have imported raw materials early, they are not in a hurry to increase prices at this time to support farmers.
