Frustrated because the karaoke bar lacks attendants, 1 person lost his life

Dissatisfied with the lack of attendants at the karaoke bar, a man cursed, got into a fight with the karaoke bar staff, and was stabbed to death.

At the first instance trial on April 12, the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City sentenced defendant Nguyen Thanh Luan (SN 1994) to 18 years in prison for the crime of “Murder”. Defendant Dang Quang Toan (SN 1995) received 1 year and 3 months in prison for the crime of “disturbing public order”.

According to the indictment, on the evening of December 24, 2018, Mr. NTL and a group of friends went to a karaoke bar in District 2 (now Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) to sing and drink beer. When entering the singing room, L. asked Toan (the bar manager) to arrange 4 waitresses.

Because it was Christmas Eve, the number of customers coming to the restaurant was very crowded, so Toan could only arrange 2 flight attendants to serve L. L’s group, who were not satisfied and quarreled with Toan.

At dawn the next morning, after drinking beer and singing, group L. left. At this time, L. continued to raise his voice and invite Toan to the gate to fight.

Hearing the guests curse, Luan (karaoke bar staff) walked over and said: “How can you not be quiet”. Hearing that, NTL turned to curse and then attacked Luan.

Toan and Luan clashed with guests. During the melee, Luan stabbed L. to death. Another employee of the restaurant, Nguyen Tuan Vi, took Luan to dispose of the weapon.

Luan fled to China and was arrested by Chinese police for illegally entering the country. In September 2020, Luan was released, returned to Vietnam, and was arrested.

As for Nguyen Tuan Vi, the prosecution found that even though he knew that Luan used a knife to stab others, Vi still helped. This behavior has signs of constituting the crime of “Concealing a crime”. However, at the time of the act, Vi was not old enough to bear criminal responsibility. Therefore, the proceeding agency does not consider handling.
