Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a virus that causes human papillomavirus. There are more than 100 strains of HPV, of which 14 out of 40 are sexually transmitted and are at high risk and can cause precancerous lesions, cervical cancer, anal cancer, and cancer. other genitals and extra-genital cancers such as oropharyngeal cancers. High-risk strains of HPV are detected in more than 99% of cervical cancers.

With the current low rate of HPV vaccination in Vietnam, at 12% in 2020-2021, in order to support the Ministry of Health in implementing the HPV vaccination program, MSD signed a Technical Cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund in 2019. The program is implemented in the period 2019-2023, supporting the development of a national roadmap on HPV vaccination and addressing the burden of HPV-related diseases.
