Spectacular ministry of stealing 500 tons iron bridge

A gang of thieves recently disguised themselves as irrigation officials, dismantled and stolen a 500-ton iron bridge 18 meters long in the Rohtas district of Bihar state in eastern India, according to reports. The Hindu today 9.4.

Some villagers said a gang of thieves posing as irrigation officials took part in the dismantling of the iron bridge, built 45 years ago, because it was old, dilapidated and no longer used by the people. A new concrete bridge nearby was put into use 5 years ago.

Local journalist Ajit Kumar said that because the thieves used heavy equipment such as cutters when dismantling the bridge, people did not suspect that they were posing as irrigation officials. Mr. Kumar said the thieves took three days to remove the bridge sections from the construction site. “Only after realizing it was a burglary did the villagers report it to the authorities,” added Mr Kumar.

Theft was reported to the police on April 6 and police confirmed the thieves were posing as irrigation officials. On April 4, the police opened an investigation into the case steal the bridgebut so far no suspects have been arrested, according to AFP.
