Cancer on the rise in Vietnam

Cancer remains a global concern. According to GLOBOCAN statistics in 2020, the incidence and mortality of cancer worldwide tend to increase. In Vietnam, there are an estimated 182,563 new cases and 122,690 cancer deaths. For every 100,000 people, 159 people are newly diagnosed with cancer and 106 people die from cancer.

Currently, only 185/204 countries have statistical reports on cancer according to GLOBOCAN. In 2020, Vietnam ranked 91st/185th in incidence rate and 50th/185th in mortality rate per 100,000 people. This ranking of 2018 is 99/185 and 56/185 respectively. Thus, it can be seen that the incidence and mortality of cancer in Vietnam are increasing rapidly. This situation is similar to many countries in the world, including developed countries such as Britain, France, Italy, Japan, Korea, Thailand, and the United States. However, the mortality rate from cancer in these countries decreased.

In Vietnam, the most common cancers in men include liver, lung, stomach, colorectal, and prostate cancers (accounting for about 65.8% of all cancers). In women, the most common cancers include breast, lung, colorectal, stomach, and liver cancers (accounting for 59.4% of all cancers). Common to both sexes, the most common cancers are liver, lung, breast, stomach and colorectal cancers.

Cancer is a disease caused by many factors that combine, but in general, there are two groups of factors: a group of modifiable factors (such as lifestyle behaviors, environment, ..) and a group of irreversible factors. age, genes, etc.).
